BALTIMORE, Md. – UMBC scored the game's final 12 goals and defeated Bucknell 20-5 on Sunday in non-conference women's lacrosse action at UMBC Stadium. Laurel McHale scored two goals, and Tatumn Kohlbrenner and Allie Boyce both tallied a goal and an assist for the Bison, who were originally slated to host the game on Saturday but were forced to relocate after a snowstorm hit the area.
Bucknell dropped its second straight on the heels of a three-game winning streak and is now 3-3 on the season. UMBC snapped a two-game slide and improved to 4-3.
Dymin Gerow and Claire Bockstie scored four goals apiece to lead the Retrievers, who finished with a 40-20 shot advantage.
The Bison trailed 8-4 at the half before Emma Cashwell scored 37 seconds into the third period to make it a three-goal game. Bucknell had a chance to draw even closer after drawing a free-position attempt, but they turned the ball over, and Kolby Weedon scored at the other end to ignite a big run for UMBC.
The Retrievers scored three times in a span of 2:44 to kick off an eight-goal third quarter, and then they tacked on four more in the fourth.
Caitlin Tucker and Colleen Kazanjian both made six saves for the Bison. Isabella Fontana (6) and Lexi Roberts (5) combined for 11 saves for UMBC. Eva Macris and Abby Neff collected three ground balls each, and Cashwell led the Bison with three draw controls.
Bucknell is back in action at home against Binghamton on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
