Bucknell at a Glance
- The Bison head to Florida during Spring Break week, where they will play their first outdoor dual matches of the spring. Bucknell has four contests lined up, starting with two on Sunday against Atlantis and Ave Maria.
- Bucknell is 3-8 on the spring and 3-3 over its last six dual matches. Two of those three losses were by 4-3 counts to Saint Joseph's and Delaware, with the victories coming against Siena (4-3), Marist (7-0), and Saint Francis (Pa.) (7-0).
- The Bison are coming off a 6-1 loss at Dartmouth last Saturday. Tim Zelikovsky posted a straight-set win at No. 4 singles to account for Bucknell's point, and Zelikovsky heads to Florida as the team's hottest player.
- Zelikovsky, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week on Tuesday, has won six straight singles matches and is now 6-1 since moving to the No. 4 spot in the lineup at the start of February. He has dropped only two sets in that six-match winning streak, and his seven dual-match wins and 13 overall wins in 2021-22 are both tops on the squad.
- Zelikovsky and Harrison Gold had teamed up for five straight wins at No. 1 doubles before seeing that streak end in a hard-fought 7-5 loss at Dartmouth. That duo is now 5-2 this spring.
- Zelikovsky's 13 singles wins are one more than Mueller for the team lead, followed by Michael Owen with nine and Nicolas Grunig with eight. Â
- Bucknell faces four tough tests against Florida squads next week.
- Located in Miami, Atlantis is in the midst of its inaugural season of varsity athletics. The school is sponsoring men's basketball, baseball, football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's tennis.
- Ave Maria is an NAIA program out of the Sun Conference. The Gyrenes are 6-4 on the season and were ranked 17th nationally in the latest NAIA poll. That ranking figures to climb, as Ave Maria has won four straight heading into Thursday's match against Kansas Wesleyan in Orlando.
- Lynn boasts one of the best Division II men's tennis programs in the nation. The Fighting Knights have won 25 national championships and 47 conference championships. Lynn is currently No. 12 in the nation in the ITA Division II computer rankings and has been as high as No. 3 in the ITA Coaches Poll. The team's 7-0 spring record includes a 5-0 win over Army last Sunday and a mid-February road win over then-No. 1 Barry.
- St. Thomas is also in the NAIA Sun Conference along with Ave Maria, and the Bobcats were nationally ranked earlier in the season. They are currently 5-4 on the season after back-to-back wins over Eastern Nazarene and Division I Duquesne.
- Following the Florida trip, the Bison jump right into Patriot League play with a home match against Army on Saturday, March 19 at the Varsity Tennis Courts. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
