LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University baseball team will return to Depew Field for its home opener on Friday, starting a run of 13 of its next 16 games in Lewisburg in March. The Bison will take on Niagara at 12 p.m. on Friday afternoon for a doubleheader before a single game on Saturday at 12 p.m., a recent change to the schedule as of Wednesday, as the Bison will play their first game at Depew since May 8, 2021.
Live stats will be available for each game at this link.
- The Bison managed a historic win last Saturday, defeating Duke for the first time in school history, 8-6. The Bison defeated their third ACC school since 2015, with wins over Virginia (2020) and Wake Forest (2015) also on that list.
- Anthony Sherwin had a solid weekend for the Bison against quality competition, notching four hits, all doubles, against the Blue Devils. Sherwin has now hit a double in four consecutive games and five his last six outings, upping his average to .303 on the season. The sophomore's two-RBI double in game two against the Blue Devils gave Bucknell a 4-3 lead in the game in the fourth inning on Saturday, and his on-base percentage of .452 ranks fifth in the Patriot League.
- Brendan Lowery's heroics in game two helped Bucknell prevail, as his two-run home run in the seventh proved clutch for the Bison in breaking a 6-6 tie. The home run for Lowery was his second of the season. The senior ranks fifth in the Patriot League in slugging percentage (.515).
- Grant Voytovich, who also hit a two-RBI double in the fourth in the win over Duke, leads the team with 11 hits overall. The sophomore's seven RBIs this season are also tied with Sherwin for the most on the team.
- Will Greer managed his first win of the season against the Blue Devils, pitching at least six innings for the third straight outing to open the season, and the junior has now gone at least six innings in eight of his 13 appearances for the Orange and Blue.
- Nine Bison have registered multi-hit games this season, with Voytovich and Lowery both leading the way with three. Jacob Corson and Sherwin each have two outings, while Tyler Dunn, Chris Cannizzaro, Mason Kelly, Kendall Pierson, and Logan Kellerman each have one. Cannizzaro registered at least one hit in each of the first eight games for the Orange and Blue this season. The senior's ten-game hitting streak dating back to last season was snapped in the series finale as Duke held the Bison to just three hits overall.
- Corson notched Bucknell's longest hitting streak last season at seven games.
- Bucknell last faced Niagara in 2019 for three games in early March, taking all three games of the series. The Bison outscored the Purple Eagles 34-3, with Cannizzaro the only active Bison to have appeared in that series.
- Cannizzaro racked up four hits, an RBI, and two runs scored that weekend.
- Graeme Carroll had one of the best outings of his career in the win over Duke, scattering three hits over three innings in earning his first career save. Carroll and Greer combined to walk just one batter through nine innings, the second time this season the Bison pitching staff has accomplished the feat. Bucknell also walked one batter in ten innings in a 2-1 loss to Radford on February 25.
- 33 of Bucknell's 45 runs scored this season have come in the fourth, eighth, or ninth inning. Bucknell has scored in each inning with the exception of the sixth in 2022.
- After this weekend, the Bison get right back to it with a game against Pitt on Tuesday, March 15 before traveling to Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, March 16. The Bison will then have ten straight home games at Depew Field, beginning with a four-game series against Navy to open Patriot League play from March 18-20.
