
Men's Track & Field Concludes Patriot League Indoor Championships, Placing Fifth

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell men's track & field completed its indoor Patriot League season with the league championships on Sunday at the Gerhard Fieldhouse, finishing fifth with 47.5 points. Navy captured the title with 264, followed by Army (188.5), Boston U. (91) and Lehigh (65).
Bucknell found success in the 400 and the triple jump, combining for 18 points in those two events.
"We are obviously not happy with our fifth-place finish. With that said, I was pleased with the effort that our men who made the lineup gave us," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had a number of guys missing from our lineup due to health reasons from the winter, and the league is very tough. I cannot wait to get the outdoor season started, and we will end the indoor season for a lot of guys with the IC4A Championships next week, in which we have a lot qualified in individual events and all three relays."
Sophomores Ethan Wolford-Tuffy and Rayven Sample both scored in the 400, placing fourth (49.24) and fifth (49.46), respectively. Sample's 49.46 was a new personal best, and both Wolford-Tuffy and Sample contributed to Bucknell's scoring in the 4x400 also.
The 4x400 relay team (Sample, Colby Belczyk, Caleb Wooten, Wolford-Tuffy) took third at the meet to garner six points, running a 3:20.16. The group was less than a second behind Army's second-place squad. The distance medley relay team (Thomas Matsumura, Alex Simpson, Kevin Boyle, Brendan O'Toole) scored as well, taking fifth with a 10:14.53.
Bucknell also saw plenty of success in field events, as four different Bison scored in jumps and throws. Junior Anthony scored in the shot put with a 54-10.25, which was good enough for fourth overall at the meet. The mark was just below is personal best of 55-2, which ranks fourth on Bucknell's top 10 list.
The day started with rookie Tristan An scoring in the high jump, clearing 6-5.5 to earn a seventh-place finish. His height matched the fifth and sixth-place finishers from Lehigh.
A pair of Bison also scored in the triple jump, as Chris Sims and Ian Lawrence placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Sims, a rookie from Haverford, Pa., set a new personal best with his 45-4.25, while Lawrence cleared 45-3.5 to score in his second consecutive championship meet.
Lastly, senior Franco Perinotti completed the heptathlon and moved up a spot from seventh to sixth (4,646) on Sunday to earn three points for the Orange & Blue. Perinotti finished second in the heptathlon's pole vault and third in the heptathlon 60m.
Bucknell returns next weekend to compete at the IC4A Championships in Boston, Mass. Events begin on Friday, March 4 and will run through Sunday.
