Men's Tennis Drops Close One at Delaware, 4-3

ELKTON, Md. – The Bucknell men's tennis team won two doubles matches and two singles matches, but Delaware rallied to claim the top two and bottom two singles tilts to swipe a 4-3 decision on Sunday at Elkton Indoor Tennis.

The Bison are now 3-7 this spring after splitting a pair of weekend contests. Bucknell defeated Saint Francis (Pa.) 6-1 at home on Saturday. The Bison have won three of their last five, with both losses in that span by 4-3 counts.

Bucknell got out to a strong start against the Blue Hens, picking up wins and first and third doubles to claim the point. Harrison Gold and Tim Zelikovsky won their fifth straight match at No. 1, 6-4 over Pascal Wagemaker and James Wilkinson. Newcomer Charlie Nordahl earned his first collegiate victory at No. 3, teaming with Nicolas Grunig for a 6-4 decision over Nicholas Gore and Emiliano Gonzalez.

Michael Owen and Zelikovsky were victorious in singles for the Bison. Owen won his fourth straight match at No. 3, this one in come-from-behind fashion. After dropping the first set, Owen controlled the next two 6-3, 6-1 against Alexandre Gluck.

Zelikovsky claimed his fifth straight singles win, 6-4, 6-4 over Guilherme Valdoleiros at No. 4.

Delaware won straight-set matches on Courts 1, 2, 5, and 6 to improve to 3-5 on the season.

Bucknell is back in action next Saturday at Dartmouth.
