SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team made it three wins in the last four dual matches after a convincing 6-1 defeat of Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday at the Central PA Tennis Center. The Bison started the day by winning the doubles point, then posted straight-set wins on each of the first five singles courts.
Harrison Gold and Tim Zelikovsky won their fourth consecutive match at No. 1 doubles with a quick 6-1 verdict. Michael Owen and Nick Mueller followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 to clinch the doubles point, and then all four came back to win their singles matches.
Gold was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Sebastian Pinos at No. 1, upping his spring record to 3-2. Mueller won his fourth straight match at No. 2, Owen made it three straight wins at No. 3, and Zelikovsky captured his fourth in a row at No. 4.
Owen clinched the team win for Bucknell when he defeated Andrew Teixeira 7-5, 6-2, avenging a loss to Teixeira in the fall at the Bucknell Invitational.
Also victorious in singles for the Bison was Nicolas Grunig at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5 over Daniel Vinces. Grunig needed three sets to beat Vinces back in September.
Saint Francis' lone point came at No. 6 singles, where Christian Banti defeated Per Astrom in straight sets.
Bucknell is right back in action on Sunday, taking on Delaware in Elkton, Md.
