GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Jason Lohwater shot a 2-under-par 70 on Monday in the second round of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club, leading the Bucknell men's golf team to a 297 team score. On the heels of a 5-under 283 on Sunday, the Bison are now in ninth place in the 18-team field with a 580 total.
Lohwater began his day with a birdie at the fifth hole, which was part of a sensational start. He made another birdie at the par-5 ninth, and then a birdie-birdie-eagle stretch at holes 12-13-14 got him to 6-under through 10 holes. Lohwater gave four strokes back at the end of the course's inward nine, but four straight pars to end the day left him with a second straight 70.
At 4-under for the tournament, Lohwater is in a tie for seventh place in a field of 110 players, five shots off the lead.
Elsewhere for Bucknell in round two, Michael Rudnick posted a 75, Blake Wisdom and Jake Maddaloni both shot 76, and Jack Gardner tallied a 77. Rudnick had a nice finish to his round. After a double-bogey at 18 left him at 5-over for the day, he made back-to-back birdies at 1 and 2 and played his final six holes in 2-under to post 75.
Middle Tennessee State paced the field with a 7-under 281 team total in round two. The Blue Raiders jumped past first-round leader Utah Valley and now have a four-stroke lead. Seton Hall is third at 566 total, eight off the lead.
Bucknell is only two shots behind South Dakota and Missouri State for seventh and just five behind fifth-place Marshall.
Kevin Jegers of Middle Tennessee State shot 69 on Monday to get to 9-under for the tournament. He has a one-shot lead over Delaware's Roberto Nieves and two over Utah Valley's Joseph Glenn. Lohwater is one of nine players within five shots of Jegers.
The highlight of the day was UT-Martin's Bryson Morrell and DePaul's Artemiy Yalovenko – playing in the same group – both making holes-in-one. Morrell aced the 208-yard eighth hole on his first swing of the day, and about an hour later Yalovenko aced the 185-yard 16th.
The third and final round gets underway with a 7:45 a.m. (local time) shotgun start. Bucknell will be playing with Creighton, Holy Cross, and Air Force.
