About the Bison
- Bucknell heads to Arizona for its second tournament of the spring. The Loyola Invitational runs Sunday through Tuesday at Palm Valley GC. The Bison will be part of a deep 18-team field that includes Patriot League rivals Loyola and Holy Cross.
- The Bison opened the spring Feb. 6-8 at the Bucknell Veterans Intercollegiate at Orange County National in Florida. Bucknell finished second among eight teams in the field, trailing only Siena.
- Bucknell posted team scores of 292-294-297 in Florida, not bad considering the team was limited to indoor training at the Bachman Golf Center throughout January.
- Blake Wisdom was the low Bison at the Veterans Intercollegiate. The junior shot 74-71-71 to finish in ninth place, and he was later named Patriot League Golfer of the Week.
- Wisdom is back in the lineup this week, along with Jack Gardner, Jason Lohwater, Michael Rudnick, and Jake Maddaloni.
- This is the second of at least six spring events for the Bison, culminating with the Patriot League Championship on Apr. 29-May 1 at the Steel Club in Hellertown, Pa.
- The Bison competed in five fall events, highlighted by a win at the Howard Bison Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Bucknell Invitational.
- Bucknell finished one shot in front of William & Mary to win Howard's tournament at Woodmont Country Club. A very challenging course combined with damp and windy conditions meant elevated scores across the field, but Bucknell was able to persevere with a 54-hole total of 922. William & Mary finished with 923, and Princeton and Towson were also close behind.
- This is Bucknell's second appearance in Loyola's early spring tournament. The other came in February 2020, and that proved to be the team's final event of the season, as collegiate athletics shut down a few weeks later due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Bucknell performed very well here two years ago, finishing sixth out of 19 teams with some record-setting scores. The Bison tallied a 6-under 858, which was the best 54-hole score in relation to par in team history. The 5-under 283 was the third-best 18-hole score in relation to par.
- Chris Tanabe posted a 5-under 211 to finish T-8th. Jackson Bussell (+1), Blake Wisdom (+2), Peter Bradbeer (+2) and Jason Lohwater (+3) all just missed red numbers for the week.
- Drake won that 2020 event at 15-under 849, one better than Eastern Michigan and two in front of Loyola. The 2021 Loyola Intercollegiate was not played due to the pandemic.
- The tournament begins Sunday with a 7:45 a.m. (local time) shotgun start.
