Bucknell at a Glance
- The Bison women's lacrosse team hits the road for the first time in 2022, taking on Binghamton on Saturday afternoon.
- Bucknell dropped its season opener at home to Canisius by a 14-12 count last Saturday. The Bison jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but the Golden Griffins evened things up later in the first half and then broke open a one-goal game with a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter.
- Despite the loss, the Bison received career-best offensive outputs from Laurel McHale (4-2-6) and Tatumn Kohlbrenner (4-1-5), and both were honored by the Patriot League on Monday. McHale was named the PL Attacker of the Week, and Kohlbrenner was selected as the PL Midfielder of the Week.
- Freshmen attackers Allie Boyce (1-0-1) and Carly Cenci (0-1-1) both started on opening day and logged their first collegiate points.
- Katie Wendell, Caroline Miller, and Taylor Kopan also scored goals for Bucknell, and Emma Cashwell dished out two assists.
- Bucknell won 13 draw controls against Canisius, led by Ella Payer with four and Kohlbrenner and Cashwell with three each.
- Freshman goalie Colleen Kazanjian made her collegiate debut in relief of senior starter Caitlin Tucker. Kazanjian tallied four saves.
- The Bison went 3-6 during an abbreviated 2021 spring season. The wins came over Lafayette, American, and Colgate, all at home.
- Bucknell was picked to finish eighth in the Patriot League preseason poll. Loyola was tabbed the preseason favorite, followed by Navy, Army, Lehigh, Boston University, Colgate, Holy Cross, Bucknell, American, and Lafayette.
- The Bison return nine starters, including three of the top four scorers and the bulk of the defensive unit, from last year's squad.
- Seniors Cashwell and Eva Macris, along with junior Payer, have been named captains for the 2022 season. Macris is in her second year as a captain.
- Payer is Bucknell's lone returning All-Patriot League selection. She earned the honor as a sophomore after leading the team with 24 draw controls while playing strong defense. Midfielder Mason Rode, who graduated last spring, joined Payer on the All-PL Second Team.
- Senior attackers McHale and Wendell are the top returning scorers. McHale tallied a team-high 18 points on 11 goals and seven assists last season, while Wendell logged five goals and a team-high 12 assists.
- Head coach Jackie Dando is in her third season as Bucknell's head coach. Each of the first two were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, however. Former Colgate star Haley O'Hanlon and Veronica John have joined the staff as assistant coaches.
- This will be the third game of the season for the Bearcats, who have a blowout win and a blowout loss on their ledger. Binghamton opened the season with a 23-6 setback at third-ranked Syracuse, but the Bearcats bounced back on Wednesday with a 14-4 victory at Colgate.
- In the win in Hamilton, Binghamton outscored Colgate 10-2 in the second half after leading 4-2 at intermission. Freshman midfielder Abby Carroll led the team with four goals and an assist, as the Bearcats outshot the Raiders 35-20 and won the ground ball battle 25-13.
- Over the two games, Carroll leads the team with six goals and seven points, followed by Madison Murphy with four goals and Jesse Barer with three. Sofia Afkham has a team-high 10 draw controls.
- Emily Manning has started both games in goal and has 16 saves with 27 goals against.
- Binghamton went 3-5 during an abbreviated 2021 season, with all eight games coming against America East opponents.
- Bucknell is 4-1 all-time against Binghamton, including a 16-9 win in the most recent meeting in 2020. The other four matchups all came between 2006-12, with Binghamton's lone win an 18-7 verdict in 2010.
- That 2020 clash at Graham Field came in Jackie Dando's second game as Bucknell's head coach, and the win gave the Bison a 2-0 start. Eve Calabria tallied three goals and three assists, and Caroline Walsh netted a hat trick as Bucknell jumped out to an 11-3 halftime lead. Emma Cashwell (2-0-2), Ella Payer (0-1-1), and Katie Wendell (0-1-1) are current Bison who registered points in that game.
- Bucknell has six non-conference games before starting Patriot League play on March 19 at Navy. After Binghamton, the Bison are back home for their next two games: Feb. 26 against Robert Morris and Mar. 2 against Duquesne.
