Women's Track & Field Set for Weekend Meet at VMI Winter Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's track & field team heads to Lexington, Va. to take part in the 2022 VMI Winter Classic after taking last weekend off. It's Bucknell's final away meet of the indoor season, as the Patriot League Indoor Championships are just two weeks away.

About Bucknell

Bucknell is set to compete in its third away meet of the season on Friday and Saturday. The VMI Winter Classic is a large meet, featuring 20 teams and strong competition as Bucknell enters the final weeks of preparation ahead of the 2022 Indoor Patriot League Championships.
Bucknell saw a host of athletes break into the all-time top 10 list while competing at the Bison Open and Multis and Penn State's Sykes & Sabock invitational. Most notable was a win in the 3000 at the Penn State meet by Ashlyn Ramos. Her 9:35.59 was second all-time in program history.
Three other Bison entered Bucknell's all-time top 10 at the Penn State meet. Junior Jennifer Scott moved to eighth on the list with her 11-10.5 mark in pole vault. Fellow junior Jessie Castellano moved into eighth on the list in the 400 as well with a 57.08. Senior Karly Forker's 4:56.63 mile is ninth-best in Bucknell's record books.
The Bison also grabbed eight first-place finishes at the Bison Open and Multis meet, beginning with a win in the distance medley relay on the first day. The team ran a 12:22.60, while Bucknell's B team came in at second (12:28.35).
At the Bucknell meet, Michaela Bracken grabbed a win in the 500 (1:15.46), Mackenzie Turner took first in the 800 (2:18.53), sophomore Hollie Walters won the 1000 (3:19.90), and Mia Bellucci placed first in the mile (5:15.73).
The Bison also won three field events at home. Abby Kates won the high jump (5-03.75), Gianna Macones won the long jump (18-05.25) for a second straight meet, and Lexi Gray earned a first-place finish in the triple jump (37-03.00).

Coach Donner's Take
"This is a very big weekend for our program, and the athletes are very excited. We have never attended this meet, and it will be fun to compete against programs that we traditionally do not see much. I have heard nothing but good things about the facility. Traditionally, the second week of February is when our marks start to improve drastically, and coming off a weekend off, the athletes are rested, hungry and ready. It's also the first true regular season overnight road trip in two years, which is very exciting for our athletes."
