Julia Sobilo Notches Patriot League Outdoor Rookie of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Julia Sobilo debuted her outdoor career in exemplary fashion with a victory in the discus at the Bucknell-Binghamton Dual (the Battle of the BUs) and the conference voters awarded her with Patriot League Outdoor Rookie of the Week. Her selection marks the third straight year that a Bucknell athlete won the laurel.

"Julia told me early in the year she tries to get 1& better each day," said throws coach Ryan Protzman. "She did that, and then some on Sunday. Every throw was well over her best high school mark. She's had a lot of growth this first year, and I'm confident she will keep finding that 1%."

The newcomer displayed a veteran presence and result with her winning throw of 48.49m (159-1). The mark arrived during her fifth attempt and the distance moved her into second in the conference and third all-time at Bucknell. Five of her six throws landed successfully, displaying an amazing mark of consistency from a young thrower.

Bucknell demolished Binghamton, outscoring the Bearcats 124-58, giving head coach Kevin Donner the first dual win of his Bucknell career.

Bucknell heads to the Colonial Relays this weekend to defend its 2025 victory.
