LEWISBURG, Pa.- Julia Sobilo continues her highly successful rookie season by notching another Patriot League Outdoor Women's Rookie of the Week award after her discus throw performance at the competitive and historic Penn Relays on Friday. Sobilo previously won the honor on March 31.
"Julia has had consistent performances each week, and I'm excited to see her attack these next couple of weeks as we head into Patriot League Championships," said throws coach Ryan Protzman.
Sobilo held her own against a vast and deep field. The collegiate newcomer placed tenth and narrowly missed making the finals, on a throw of 45.28m (148-7), fewer than two feet away from qualification. Her first attempt traveled 44.55m (146-2). Her next try unfortunately fouled. Sobilo finished resolutely, hitting her day-best mark and moving from 11th to tenth.Â
The discus thrower became the first Bison since teammate United States national champion Evelyn Bliss in 2024 to win the honor twice. The Orange & Blue record holder for the category is current jumps coach Kaitlin Salisbury, who won four in 2017.Â
Bucknell competes at Maryland's Kehoe Twilight this Friday night.Â
