LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's basketball team is back on the road this weekend to face Cornell. The two teams have squared off 24 times since 1982, but this is the first meeting since 2014. Bucknell is looking to break into the win column for the first time this season.

Headlines
• Bucknell goes back on the road Saturday to face Cornell in search of its first win of the season. The Bison fell to 0-3 with a loss in the home opener on Wednesday. It's been a challenging start to the season with losses to a strong Saint Joseph's team, No. 13 Virginia Tech and a veteran Fairleigh Dickinson team.
• The Bison last started 0-3 in 2009. They haven't been 0-4 since the 1994-95 season.
• Bucknell finished 24-10 overall and 12-6 in Patriot League play last season. The Bison reached the 2022 Patriot League Championship game playing as the No. 4 seed in the tournament, but they fell 65-54 to No. 2 seed American.
• Bucknell received an at-large bid to the 2022 WNIT and defeated Fordham in the first round before falling to Drexel in the second. Bucknell is the only Patriot League team with two all-time WNIT victories under its belt.
• Bucknell graduated two seniors in the spring, including two-time First Team All-Patriot League guard Taylor O'Brien and 2022 PL All-Defensive Team member Marly Walls. O'Brien led the Bison in scoring over the past two seasons, scored the fifth-most single-season point in program history as a senior (567) and graduated ranking 21st on Bucknell's all-time scoring list (1,125).
• Bucknell sophomore Cecelia Collins was voted to the 2022 Preseason All-Patriot League Team. She was a Second Team All-League selection last year. This is the first time since 2011 Bucknell has not returned a junior or senior All-League player.
• Bucknell was picked fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. It's the first time since 2015-16 Bucknell was not picked in the top three. The Bison have gone 100-16 in league play since the start of the 2015-16 season.
• Senior Emma Shaffer, junior Caroline Dingler and sophomore Cecelia Collins were named captains ahead of the 2022-23 season.
• Head coach Trevor Woodruff is in his fourth season at Bucknell. He's 57-18 over that time, including a 36-8 mark in Patriot League play. He was named PL Coach of the Year in each of his first two seasons.
• Following the retirement of assistant coach Jim Reed during the offseason, Kelly Mazzante was elevated to associate head coach, and former manager of basketball operations LaSashia Connelly was named an assistant coach. Molly Gillis joined the staff during the offseason as the program's new manager of ops.
Scouting Cornell
• Cornell is 1-2 with losses to Colgate and Fairleigh Dickinson and a win over Lafayette on Wednesday. The win over the Leopards was the Big Red's first home game this season.
• Picked sixth in the Ivy League preseason poll, Cornell finished the 2021-22 season 9-16 (4-10 IVY).
• Another veteran team, Cornell lost just two seniors to graduation in the spring. The Big Red have seven upperclassmen on the roster, including leading scorer Shannon Mulroy (11.3 ppg).
• Cornell's youth has also stepped up over the first three games of the season, and freshman Emily Pape has neared double-double territory twice in the first three games.
• Three Cornell players scored in double figures in the win over Lafayette, including a team-high 12 points from senior guard Ania McNicholas.
• Cornell is led by head coach Dayna Smith, who owns a 208-311 career record in 20 seasons with the Big Red.
Series History with the Big Red/Ivy League
• Bucknell leads 19-5 in the all-time series with Cornell. The Bison have won each of the last three, with Cornell picking up its last win in 2011. The series began in 1982.
• Bucknell and Cornell last met on Nov. 29, 2014. The Bison won 59-51 in the most recent meeting thanks to a double-double (15-15) by Claire DeBoer at Sojka Pavilion. Bucknell never trailed in the game.
• Bucknell set the program's single-game record for field goals made (44) in the 1987 matchup with Cornell, and Lindsay Horbatuck matched the program's Sojka Pavilion record with 19 rebounds against the Big Red in 2013. Bucknell also made 37 field goals against Cornell in 2004 and limited the Big Red to just 11 makes from the field in the 2013 meeting, both of which are facility records for the women.
• Bucknell faced Cornell twice during the 2000-01 season. Cornell earned the first win at the Cornell Classic, and the Bison took revenge a month later with a victory at home.
• Cornell is one of two Ivy League teams on the schedule for the Bison this season. They'll face Penn on the road on Dec. 6.
• Bucknell is 32-24 in all-time meetings with Ivy League teams.

Last Time Out
• Bucknell couldn't overcome a slow start and lost its home opener to Fairleigh Dickinson 62-49 Wednesday evening at Sojka Pavilion.
• The Knights led by a 27-5 score at the end of the first quarter thanks to a perfect 5-for-5 shooting from 3-point range and 75.0 percent shooting overall in the period. FDU opened the game with an 18-0 run.
• The Bison outscored Fairleigh Dickinson (2-1) 44-35 the rest of the way thanks in large part to a strong performance from Emma Shaffer. Shaffer scored a game-high 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end. She was the only Bucknell (0-3) player to reach double figures in scoring.
• The Knights had four players in double figures, led by 16 points from Chloe Wilson, who also posted a team-high seven rebounds and drew nine fouls.
• The Bison got to within eight points (50-42) early in the fourth quarter following a basket by Shaffer, but Ella Fajardo answered with a 3-pointer for Fairleigh Dickinson to push the lead back to double figures.
• Bucknell forced 18 turnovers in the contest, with Kaylee Reinbeau registering a team-high two steals. The Bison limited the Knights to just 31.8 percent shooting in the second half.
Patriot League Preseason Awards
• Cecelia Collins was one of five players named to the 2022 Preseason All-Patriot League Team.
• Collins is Bucknell's lone returning All-Patriot League player, earning spots on the Second Team and the All-Rookie Team as a freshman in 2021-22. She became the first Bison freshman to earn a spot on the First, Second or Third Team since 2001.
• Collins was one of two sophomores to make the Preseason All-League Team.
• Boston University senior Sydney Johnson was named the Patriot League Player of the Year.
• While not earning a spot on the five-player Preseason All-League Team, Boston senior Maren Durant was voted the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, an award that was just added prior to this season.
Bison Picked Fourth in Patriot League Preseason Poll
• Bucknell was picked to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll based on a vote by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
• Bucknell was last picked fourth in the preseason poll prior to the 2015-2016. It has been picked third or higher every year since.
• Boston University was picked first, followed by Lehigh and Holy Cross. Reigning Patriot League Champion American was picked eighth.
• Bucknell is 100-16 in league play since the start of the 2015-16 season.
