Wisdom Has Share of Lead, Bison in Third After First Round of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Blake Wisdom is tied for the lead after opening the Bucknell Invitational with a 3-under-par 67, and the Bison are in third place in the team standings after posting a 291 composite on Sunday at the Bucknell Golf Club.
Bucknell's A squad received major help from two freshmen, as James Robbins followed Wisdom with an even-par 70, and Andres Barraza birdied two of the final three holes to shoot 73. No. 1 player Jackson Bussell had to withdraw after playing three holes, so the Bison had to count Jack Gardner's 81.
Rider and Robert Morris are tied atop the 18-team field at 287. Bucknell is four strokes back, with Cornell (293) and Holy Cross (294) rounding out the top five. The top 12 teams are separated by only 10 shots with 36 holes still to play.
Bucknell's four counting players combined for 15 birdies on Sunday, with Wisdom tied for the most in the field with five. Wisdom shook off a bogey at the 5th hole with three birdies in the next four to make the turn in 2-under 34. He gave a shot back with a bogey at the long par-3 10th, then finished with two birdies and six pars over the final eight holes to shoot 67.
Ryan Edholm of Canisius also carded a 67, and he and Wisdom are co-leaders by two shots over Rider's Zander Gibson. Gibson, who played in the same group as Wisdom, shot a 1-under 69 and was the only other player in the field in red numbers. Robbins is one of five who shot even-par 70s.
Bucknell also has a second squad in action this week, and the B unit posted a 303 team score. Michael Rudnick led the way with a 74, followed by 76s from James Key and Josh Holtschlag, and 77s from Jake Maddaloni and Max Orwicz.
The Bucknell Invitational runs through Tuesday, with 18 holes slated for each of the next two days.
