Bucknell Women at a Glance
• Bucknell opened the season 2-0 with wins over Patriot League foes Boston U. (187-113) and Loyola (174-126). It's Bucknell's sixth straight season winning its first two scored dual meets.
• Bucknell is now 32-3 (25-3 PL) in dual meets dating back to the 2018-19 campaign. Bucknell's three losses over that stretch have been to Navy.
• The Bison picked up five individual victories in last weekend's meets, and six finished as runners-up. Bucknell also picked up a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay.
• Shining in multiple events were Catherine Craig, Jennifer Bolden and Sabrina Vumbacco. Vumbacco earned wins in the 1000 freestyle (10:29.66) and the 500 freestyle (5:08.30). She was named an honorable mention for Patriot League Female Swimmer of the Week. Craig won the 200 breaststroke (2:21.00) and took second in both the 100 breaststroke (1:05.42) and the 200 IM (2:08.11). Bolden won the 200 freestyle (1:54.04) and was part of Bucknell's second-place 400 freestyle relay.
• Sophomore Gina Hinthorn was an honorable mention for Patriot League Female Diver of the Week after taking first in the one-meter dive (248.05).
• After finishing second in last year's Patriot League Championships, the Bison have now taken the runner-up position 13 times in program history.
• Bucknell returned five of its six All-Patriot League honorees: Catherine Craig (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Abby Doss (1st in 2022), Sabrina Vumbacco (1st in 2022, 2nd in 2020), Sophia Donati (2nd in 2022), Esme Hunter (2nd in 2022).
• Bucknell added seven student-athletes to its program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. The newcomers hail from seven different states: California, Connecticut, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Bucknell Men at a Glance
• Bucknell is 2-0 to begin the season for a second straight year after defeating Boston U. (208-90) and Loyola (154.5-145.5) last Saturday. The Bison are now 9-3 over their last 11 dual meets.
• Bucknell secured a whopping seven individual wins, won one relay and grabbed four second-place finishes last weekend.
• Highlighting an outstanding opening weekend was junior John Gehrig, who took first in three events and was part of Bucknell's second-place 200 yard medley relay (1:31.69). For his efforts, Gehrig was named the Patriot League Male Swimmer of the Week as well as Bison Athlete of the Week. Gehrig won the 200 butterfly (1:48.56), the 100 butterfly (48.27) and the 200 yard IM (1:51.15).
• Sophomore Chris Kopac won three events, and Leo Kuyl was part of two wins and a runner-up spot in the 100 freestyle.
• Bucknell finished 7-3 (6-2 PL) during the 2022 campaign. It was the team's best record in dual meet competition since the 2013-14 season.
• The Bison placed third at the 2022 Patriot League Championships with 559.5 points, which were the most they've collected since 2012. The Bison broke a staggering 11 school records at the championship meet, helping head coach Dan Schinnerer earn his third career Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year nod.
• Bucknell returned six of its eight 2022 All-Patriot League honorees, including all four First Teamers: Andy Dorsel (1st in 2022), Chris Fabian (1st in 2022), John Gehrig (1st in 2022), Chris Kopac (1st in 2022), Justin DiSanto (2nd in 2022), Leo Kuyl (2nd in 2022). It lost Second Team All-Patriot League honorees Liam Pitt and Sean Quinn to graduation in the spring.
• The Bison welcomed 11 newcomers to the program ahead of the 2022-23 campaign. They hail from eight different states: California, Connecticut (2), Florida, Maryland, New York (2), Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.
Binghamton Women at a Glance
• The Bearcats are 1-0 (0-0 AE) following a 156-141 victory at Canisius last weekend.
• Binghamton finished 4-7 in 2021 and placed fourth at the America East Conference Championships.
• Bucknell is 5-0 against the Bearcats since 2013, including a 221-79 win at home last season.
• The Bison went 1-2-3 in a staggering six events to power past the Bearcats in 2021. Bucknell won 11 individual races and both relays. Then-junior Abby Doss touched the wall first in two events and logged a program top-10 time in the 100 breaststroke.
Binghamton Men at a Glance
• Binghamton's men are 1-0 (0-0 AE) following a 169-125 win over Canisius last weekend.
• The Bearcats posted a 6-3 record last season and finished second out of five at the America East Conference Championships. They won the title the previous season.
• The Bison defeated the Bearcats 169-132 at home in 2021 and are 5-0 against them since 2013.
• Bucknell won eight individual events and both relays in last season's meet. Chris Fabian, Leo Kuyl and Liam Pitt each won an individual race while swimming on both of Bucknell's first-place relay teams. The Bison went 1-2-3 in the 200 butterfly.
