Bucknell Men’s Tennis Falls to Toledo, Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michael Owen and Tim Zelikovsky won singles matches against Toledo, and Owen and Nick Mueller combined for a doubles victory against unbeaten Michigan State, but the Bucknell men's tennis team dropped a pair of dual matches on Saturday. The Bison fell 5-2 to Toledo and 7-0 to Michigan State at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.

Owen and Zelikovsky both won three-set thrillers against the Rockets (1-3). Owen was a 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 winner over Adam Kovac at No. 2 singles, while Zelikovsky came from a set down to defeat Marko Galic at No. 3, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.

At first singles, Mueller extended Pawit Sornlaksup to a third set before falling 10-5.

In the Michigan State (6-0) match on Saturday evening, Owen and Mueller defeated Jarreau Campbell and Nick Williams 6-3 on Court 1 to give the Bison a split of the first two doubles matches to finish. But the Spartans No. 3 tandem of Josh Portnoy and Josh Mukherjee prevailed in a tiebreaker over Nicolas Grunig and Per Astrom to swipe the doubles point.

Michigan State claimed all six singles tilts, with the match of the night coming between Grunig and Reed Crocker at No. 5. Grunig took the first set in a tiebreaker, before Crocker claimed the second set, 6-2. The extended third-set super tiebreaker went to Crocker by a 13-11 count.

Earlier in the day, Michigan State defeated Toledo, 4-3.

Bucknell returns to action next Saturday at Drexel at 1:30 p.m.
