About the Bison
- Bucknell competes in its third meet of the season and its second home meet. The team hosted the Bison Opener back on Dec. 3 and took part in the Nittany Lion Challenge in State College, Pa. last weekend. Neither meet was scored. This Saturday's meet will be the first scored of the season, and events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
- The Gulden Invite was not held last season due to the shortened season, but the Bison won the meet in 2020 with 225 points, outscoring second-place Delaware by 93 points.
- Bucknell claimed several top finishes in 2020, including wins in the long jump, 800, 400, 500, 1000, 3000, 5000 and shot put. Bucknell's Alexandra Butz was named the Women's Field Athlete of the Meet.
- Bucknell completed the Nittany Lion Challenge last weekend, and several Bison entered Bucknell's all-time top 10 lists with notable performances. Sophomore Meghan Quinn landed at eighth in the record books with a fifth-place finish (25.21) in the 200 and also ran an impressive 60m dash, placing ninth (7.80).
- Bucknell's lone first-place finish at the Nittany Lion Challenge was its distance medley team, which consisted of Karly Forker, Michaela Bracken, Tara Lyons and Ashlyn Ramos. The group ran an 11:53.44 in the event.
- Sophomore Siobhan O'Sullivan placed seventh in shot put with the ninth-best mark in school history (45-2.5), while fellow sophomore Abby Kates took eighth (5-05.00) in high jump to tie for seventh on the all-time top 10 list.
- Junior Jessie Castellano is coming off a third-place finish (41.57) in the 300, and her time ranks sixth all-time in school history.
- Junior Jennifer Scott and rookie Karly Renn wound up in a tie for fourth place last weekend with marks of 11-05.75 in the pole vault.
- The Gulden Invite is held in honor of Hall-of-Fame coach Art Gulden, who led the highly successful Bucknell track & field program from 1969-2001.
Coach Donner's Take
"Both of our teams are very excited about this meet. We have some very solid, fully-dimensional and balanced teams coming to the meet. We are handing out awards after the meet and scoring the meet, which you do not see too often anymore during the regular season. Chasing times and distances seems to be more of a priority rather than head-to-head competition, which is what I believe in. Shippensburg's men have won many conference titles in a row, and they are one of the top Division II schools in the country. I love having them at our home meets because they are tough athletes who really 'bring it.' They are better than most Division I programs. The Saint Francis women won the NEC last year by a record amount of points and finished third at the ECAC Championships last spring, only behind Navy and Army, and they beat us. They are tremendous at the sprints and jumps. We usually see very good improvement between the first and second meet after the holiday break and our team training camp where we overload the training. This is that week."
