Temple Scores First Career Goal as Women's Soccer Wins at Mount St. Mary's, 2-0

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Freshman Paige Temple scored her first collegiate goal, junior Abby Gearhart followed with another one five minutes later, and the Bucknell women's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 away win over Mount St. Mary's on Friday night at Waldron Family Stadium.
The Bison improved to 2-2-1 on the season with the convincing victory, which featured a 27-6 shot advantage, including a 16-2 edge in attempts on frame.
Freshman Teresa Deda and sophomore Kenar Gelman both had two-assist performances, and with the exception of a couple of Mount St. Mary's flurries in the first half, the Bison defense kept goalkeepers Jenna Hall and Kaylee Donnelly clean all night.
Bucknell came out flying from the opening whistle and nearly broke the ice in the opening minute of the match, but Rylee Donaldson's close-range header went over the bar. Claire Mensi's clean header off a corner kick was saved by Arden Lembryk a few minutes later, but that would foreshadow a set-piece breakthrough later in the half.
But first it was Temple opening her collegiate scoring account in 23rd minute with a rocket from the center of the area after a nice build-up. Deda won a ball back in the center of the park and played a beautiful ball through to Gelman, who laid it off for Temple for a blast into the back of the net from about 12 yards out.
Not even five minutes later it was 2-0. Bucknell won a corner kick, and Deda's inswinger was volleyed across the face of goal by Gelman. Gearhart was right there on the back post to chest it in for her fourth career goal.
The Bison were a bit unlucky to be held to just the two first-half goals. Junior midfielder Petie Nassetta, who was all over the field in this one, curled a shot from outside the box that seemed ticketed for the top right corner, but Lambryk made her best save of the night extending a hand to swat the shot away. Deda solidly struck the near post on the half-hour mark, and with five minutes left in the half Emilene Parham made a great play around a defender to create space for a shot. She beat the goalkeeper, but a Mount St. Mary's player on the goal line smashed the ball straight up into the crossbar and out.
After piling up a 19-4 shot advantage in the first half, Bucknell found the woodwork again midway through the second half. This time it was freshman Reese Evens drilling the crossbar with a shot from distance.
Freshman Kelley Francis had several bright moments in a substitute role, and she played a nice ball into Gearhart in the 73rd minute, but Lambryk made the save to deny Gearhart a second. Lambryk finished with 13 saves on the night.
Hall and Donnelly split the game in goal for Bucknell, with each making one save en route to the combined shutout. Deda and Gelman became the first Bison to record multiple assists in a game since Maddie Dano in a 3-1 win at Army in 2018. Gelman has now assisted on three of the team's seven goals this season.
Bucknell heads back out on the road on Sunday, visiting Columbia in New York City at 2 p.m.
