Colgate Cools off Bison Women’s Soccer in 3-0 Verdict

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell women's soccer team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end Saturday night at Beyer-Small '76 Field, as Colgate dealt the Bison their first Patriot League loss of the season with a 3-0 verdict.
Bucknell fell to 5-5-1 overall and 2-1-0 in the Patriot League, while Colgate improved to 6-4-0/2-1-0.
Bison goalkeeper Jenna Hall made a great save to stone Ally Giovino on a clean breakaway 10 minutes into the match, but the Raiders would break the ice on a nice corner kick play just five minutes before halftime. The service to the back post was headed across the face of goal to Cara Schmidlein, who headed it home from close range for a 1-0 Colgate lead.
The Raiders doubled their advantage just past the hour mark when Maddie Cappillo's shot from the top right corner of the area caught Hall leaning a bit and found its way inside the right post. Colgate added one more in the 80th minute when Hall collided with an oncoming striker going for a low cross, and the ball leaked through to Hannah Pinkus for the finish.
Bucknell had produced 10 goals in its last three games, all victories over Rider, Navy and American. But the Bison were limited to eight shots with five on target in this one. Bucknell's eight shots came from eight different players.
The Bison take a quick break from Patriot League play with a trip to Princeton on Tuesday night. The Tigers, who were nationally ranked earlier in the season, are 7-1-1 after back-to-back 4-0 wins over Delaware and Yale. Tuesday's game starts at 5 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+ and NBC Sports Philadelphia+.
