Men’s Soccer Opens League Play with Scoreless Draw at Lafayette

EASTON, Pa. – Bucknell and Lafayette played to a 110-minute scoreless tie on Saturday evening at Oaks Stadium. Both defenses held strong in the Patriot League opener for both sides, and the all-time series between the Bison and Leopards remained deadlocked at 32-32-8 dating back to 1931.
Bennett Schwartz made five saves en route to the clean sheet, but Bucknell's goal-scoring struggles against Lafayette continued. The Leopards, who went 7-0-1 and earned the Patriot League regular-season title last spring, have conceded only one goal in their last seven games against the Bison.
Lafayette nearly got on the board early in the second half, but Marcos Kitromilides put a turning shot into the crossbar from close range. In the 55th minute, Schwartz made a terrific diving save to deny Kitromilides' header.
Neither team managed a shot on goal in overtime, with the Bison successfully thwarting a pair of Lafayette corner kicks.
Chris Masur led Bucknell with three shot attempts. Jordan Miller saw his four-game goal-scoring streak come to an end. That was the longest by a Bison since Jesse Klug scored in four straight in 2015.
Now 2-4-1 overall and 0-0-1 in Patriot League play, the Bison are back in action next Saturday at home against Army at 6 p.m.
