Bucknell at a Glance
- For the first time since the season opener, the Bison take the field on a full week's rest when Army visits Emmitt Field on Saturday evening. Bucknell has been idle since last Saturday's scoreless tie at Lafayette in the first round of Patriot League play, and now the Bison return home to take on the highest-scoring team in the league.
- That draw against the Leopards capped a stretch of four games in eight days, but the Bison went 2-1-1 in that span.
- Bucknell is one of six teams that came away from the opening weekend of league play with at least a point. Army, Holy Cross, Loyola and Boston University all won, while Bucknell and Lafayette tied in Easton.
- Lafayette was finally able to cool off sophomore striker Jordan Miller, who had scored five goals in his previous four games. Miller still leads the Patriot League with those five goals, one more than Army's Oscar Pereira. Â Â Â
- Miller ranks second in the Patriot League in points with 10, three behind behind Pereira, who has five assists to go with his four goals.
- Miller became the first Bison since Jesse Klug in 2015 to score a goal in four straight games.
- Bennett Schwartz made five saves en route to the 110-minute shutout at Lafayette. Schwartz ranks fourth in the Patriot League in save percentage (.744) and fifth in goals-against average (1.42).
- Eddie Perez-Pelaez is the only other Bison besides Miller with a goal on his account this fall. It was a big one, an 85th-minute game-winner against St. Bonaventure.
- Bucknell has played six of its seven games on the road this season. The only other home game was the 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure on Sept. 12.
- Bucknell has one of its youngest squads in recent memory. The 28-man roster is comprised of four seniors, six juniors, eight sophomores and 10 freshmen. The eight sophomores could really be classified as rookies, as they also went through a full August preseason training camp for the first time.
- Bucknell has three captains for the 2021 season: seniors Alex Clarke and Patrick O'Hara, and sophomore MJ Kuczura. Kuczura, an outside back from Chester Springs, Pa., is the first sophomore captain in team history. He has been limited to one game this season due to injury.
- The high-scoring Black Knights got out to a great start in Patriot League play with a 3-0 rout of Colgate at West Point last Saturday.Â
- Jack Eaton, Andrew Guerra and Justin McStay scored the goals against the Raiders, while Oscar Pereira handed out two assists. Army outshot Colgate 16-7, and none of those seven Raiders shots were on frame.
- Army leads the Patriot League with 18 goals through seven games. Led by Pereira's four goals and five assists, the Black Knights have seven players with multiple goals and eight with at least four points on the season.
- At the other end of the pitch, Army has conceded eight goals, with three different goalkeepers getting starts thus far. Jacob Suppiah has started four games, including last week's shutout of Colgate. He has 16 saves and seven goals against in 355 minutes.
- Army went 1-3-1 in the abbreviated spring 2021 season, highlighted by a season-ending 2-0 win over Navy in Philadelphia on Apr. 25.
- The Bison and Black Knights are meeting for the first time since Oct. 26, 2019. The two teams were in opposite divisions and did not meet during the spring 2021 campaign.
- Bucknell is 17-21-1 all-time against Army. That includes eight straight losses to start the series between 1931-43, and then the two teams did not square off again until the formation of the Patriot League in 1990.
- Bucknell had won four straight and 15 of 19 before Army came up with a win and a draw in the last two meetings. Army won 3-1 at West Point in 2018, and the teams played to a 0-0 deadlock at Emmitt Field in 2019.
- These two sides have met only once in the postseason, and it was a 4-2 overtime win for Army in the 1993 Patriot League championship match.
- Bucknell plays two Patriot League games next week. The Bison travel to Lehigh for a Wednesday-night affair before hosting defending-champion American the following Saturday at noon. Both games will air on ESPN+.
