LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior co-captain Patrick O'Hara scored his seventh career goal, but Bucknell could not come up with an equalizer and fell 2-1 to Army West Point on Saturday night at Emmitt Field at Holmes Stadium.
The Bison fell to 0-1-1 in Patriot League play and 2-5-1 overall, while Army won its second straight conference match and improved to 5-2-1 on the season.
Army controlled the first 15 minutes of each half, and while the Black Knights could not finish any of their several quality chances early in the game, they found the net twice at the onset of the second stanza.
Just under four minutes into the second half, Jack Eaton headed a ball across the box, and Andrew Guerra volleyed the bouncing ball into the back of the next from the left side of the area. About nine minutes later the Bison cleared away a corner kick, but only as far as Army back Colman Kim, who rifled a shot through traffic into the left side of the net.
The Bison saw most of the ball in the latter stages of the half, and they got on the board through O'Hara in the 69th minute. A semi-cleared ball popped high in the air at the edge of the box, and Eddie Perez-Pelaez headed it back to O'Hara, who smashed home a drive from about 25 yards out.
Bucknell was unable to convert on a couple of late corner kicks, and Army held on to grab the three points.
Both teams finished with 14 shots, seven in each half, while Bucknell led 8-7 in corner kicks. Goalkeepers Bennett Schwartz and Jacob Suppiah both made three saves.
This is the start of a busy stretch for the Bison, who will travel to Lehigh on Wednesday before returning home to play American next Saturday at noon.
