LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell softball team's season came to an end on Sunday following a 0-0 tie with Colgate at Becker Field. The Bison finished the spring with a 12-18-1 overall record and a 9-14-1 mark in Patriot League play.
Colgate (15-13-1, 13-9-1 PL) had taken a 3-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning, but the game was called following an injury to a Bucknell player, and the contest reverted back to the end of the fifth inning resulting in a 0-0 final score.
Colgate posted three hits to Bucknell's one, as Olivia Marinelli put together a strong outing in the circle. Marinelli pitched all five innings and tossed one strikeout. Zoie Smith supplied the one Bucknell hit on an infield single during the third inning.
Colgate's Adrienne Nardone provided two of the team's three hits, and Bailey Misken pitched all five innings for the Raiders.
Marinelli and the defense retired the Raiders in order in both the third and fifth innings and limited them to just one hit in the first, second and fourth. Marinelli ends the season with a 3-5 record.
Bucknell saw its first baserunner in the bottom of the second when Taylor Wolfgang reached on a one-out walk, but her effort was followed by a lineout to second base and a strikeout. Smith reached an inning later after beating out a single to the shortstop, but once again the Bison couldn't drive her home. It was Smith's 23rd hit of the season, putting her second on the roster in the category.
The sixth inning began with Colgate's Adrienne Nardone reaching on a dropped fly ball to center field, and she scored two batters later after another fielding error and a sacrifice fly to center field. Two more runs came home on an inside-the-park home run before the game was called.
Further information on Colgate's playoff seeding will be released by the league at a later time. The Raiders join Army, Lehigh and top-seeded Boston U. as the four postseason participants.
