LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University baseball team dropped two games to Lafayette on Senior Day at Depew Field. Â
Bucknell fell 4-3 in game one, before the Leopards took game two by a 10-4 score. Â
Game One: Lafayette 4, Bucknell 3. Â Â
Bucknell took a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, but a three-run sixth and a two-out, RBI single from Colin Hartey gave the Leopards a 4-3, come-from-behind win over the Bison in the first game of the day. Â
Bucknell starter Austin Odell pitched one of the finest outings of his career in game one, throwing five scoreless innings as Bucknell took a 3-0 lead in the third. Â The junior from Chester Springs, Pa. ran into an initial jam in the first with runners on first and second and one out, but managed two big strikeouts to keep the Leopards off the board. Â
Lafayette threatened again in the third with runners on first and second with one out again, but Odell once again got out of the situation on a line out to left field and a catch by catcher Logan Kellerman in foul territory. Â
Bucknell broke the deadlock with a three-run third inning. Â Shortstop Anthony Sherwin started things off with a single before stealing second. Â Chris Cannizzaro then walked before both runners were moved by a sac bunt from Jacob Corson. Â
The bunt set up senior Peter Marren, who was one of five seniors honored before the game on Senior Day. Â Marren singled to second base to score Sherwin for Bucknell's first run of the inning. Â
Cannizzaro touched home a few pitches later on a wild pitch, before Kellerman hit a dribbling ball to the left side of the infield that managed to plate Marren to give Bucknell an early advantage. Â
Odell kept in control throughout his season-best five innings, and was replaced after the fifth with a final line of three hits, four strikeouts, and no runs allowed. Â
However, the Leopards battled back in the sixth, scoring three runs after managing three straight hits to start the inning. Â Lafayette capitalized on an error by the Bison in hte inning on a single by Justin Grech, and tied the game at three on the play. Â
Lafayette took the lead for good in the seventh on a single by Hartey with two outs, as Lafayette handed Bucknell its ninth defeat by one run this season. Â
Lafayette starter Kyle Subers settled in after allowing the three runs in the third, earning the win while striking out seven for the complete-game victory. Â
Bucknell managed five hits overall, and left six runners on base in the defeat. Â
Game Two: Lafayette 10, Bucknell 4Â
