About the Bison
- Bucknell will participate in its first weekday game since taking on Pittsburgh on Wednesday, March 24. The game will be Bucknell's third midweek game of the season, as the Bison also faced Mount St. Mary's on a Thursday to open the season on March 4.
- Bucknell, which was originally supposed to take on the Leopards for four games this past weekend, saw its series postponed against the Leopards to this coming Saturday and Sunday. The Bison were originally scheduled to play Lehigh for three games to close the regular season.
- Saturday's games are integral to Bucknell's playoff hopes, as the Bison are currently a half game behind the Leopards in the Patriot League standings. Army (14-8) and Lehigh (14-9) currently occupy the top two spots in the Patriot League standings in leading their respective divisions. Lafayette (10-12) and Navy (9-11) currently stand in the third and fourth spots in the standings. Bucknell (10-13) and Holy Cross (8-12) round out the standings.
- Bucknell will look to return to the Patriot League playoffs for the first time since 2018, in which the Bison fell in the Patriot League Semifinal Series to Army in three games.
- Brenden Tuttle is the only Bison on the current roster to have appeared in that series, when the native of Hollywood, Fla. registered the final two outs for Bucknell in a 4-3 defeat to Army in the decisive game.
- Bucknell added two games against UConn over the weekend, dropping both against a Husky team that entered the game 10-1 in its home ballpark.
- After the Bison were limited to two hits in the opening game, Bucknell did manage to find some offense in game two, a 13-6 defeat.
- Chris Cannizzaro added his fifth game of three hits or more season in the defeat, while Jacob Corson added two hits for his sixth multi-hit game of his rookie campaign.
- Jacob Terwilliger also provided a spark for the Bison offensively, launching a solo home run in the ninth as a pinch hitter, the first of his career.
- In Terwilliger's last eight appearances, the sophomore from Allen, Texas is hitting .370 with six RBIs, and has added four hits for extra bases. Terwilliger has also gone 3-for-4 on stolen bases during that time span.
- Caleb Broughton is hitting .462 in his last seven appearances with seven runs scored, and seven RBIs.
- Cannizzaro has also continued to excel, hitting .389 in his last nine games with nine runs scored and eight RBIs. Both Terwilliger and Cannizzaro are hitting .333 this season, which ranks in a tie for seventh in the Patriot League this season. The duo also lead the league in slugging with Terwilliger (.549) holding a narrow edge over Cannizzaro (.546).
- Cannizzaro (36), leads the team in hits this season, followed by Peter Marren (34) as the only two Bison to have reached 30 or more hits this season. Marren (12) leads the team in multi-hit games this season with 12.
- Six Bison have hit their first career home runs in 2021 including Terwilliger in Anthony Sherwin, Henry Novicki, Corson, Eunsang Yu, and Kendall Pierson. The Bison have hit 11 home runs as a team this season.
- Chris DiFiore continues to have an excellent season, and ranks third in the Patriot League in ERA (3.05). Will Greer (4.79) ranks eighth, and is second in the league in innings pitched (52.2).
- Greer, Tuttle, and DiFiore all rank in the top ten in the Patriot League this season in strikeouts, with Greer and Tuttle (36) ranking in a tie for sixth while DiFiore (34), is eighth.
- Eunsang Yu, after notching two RBIs in Bucknell's game on Sunday, leads the team with six multiple-RBI games. Nine Bison have registered three RBIs or more in a game this season, with Sherwin the only Bison to do it twice.
- Head Coach Scott Heather earned the 150th win of his career in Bucknell's game two win over Navy on March 27.
- The Hawks are 13-12 overall this season, with an 8-4 record in Atlantic 10 games this season. SJU is currently second in the Atlantic 10 North division behind La Salle, who the Bison played twice on March 6.
- Bucknell is 4-7 all-time against the Hawks, with the two teams last meeting in 2019, a narrow 3-2 defeat in Port Charlotte, Fla.
- The Bison pulled two runs back in the ninth inning, but couldn't put the tying run across the plate in the defeat. Broughton made an appearance in that game for Bucknell, drawing a walk and stealing a base. Cannizzaro also appeared in that game.
- Bucknell also dropped a one-run game to the Hawks on March 20 of that year, with senior Nicholas Sadd earning the start in an impressive performance, throwing five innings while allowing just two hits and striking out five.
- Bucknell last played Lafayette on April 27, 2019, splitting two games at Depew Field to close the regular season.
- In Bucknell's game two win that day, both Marren and Broughton made appearances, with the latter notching an RBI on a bases-loaded walk. Marren went 1-for-4 from the plate that day.
- Bucknell is 77-118-1 all-time against the Leopards, with the two teams first meeting in 1895.
- Lafayette is currently 11-14 this year, having split four games against Army in its last series on April 23-24.
