The Bison prevailed in an offensive slugfest in which the two teams combined for 23 hits. After falling behind 8-4, Bucknell scored nine straight runs beginning with a six-run third for the come-from-behind victory. Chris Cannizzaro plated the go-ahead run on a sac fly to score Logan Kellerman for Bucknell's fifth run of the third, and the Bison added four more runs over the final three innings to take a 13-8 win in game one. Â
Bucknell took a 3-0 lead in the first after Peter Marren doubled home Cannizzaro, as the Bison capitalized on an error in the infield by Lafayette. Kendall Pierson then stepped up and belted his second home run in his last three games to score Marren for Bucknell's second and third runs of the inning. Â
Lafayette responded right away in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs in the inning to tie the game. Â
Bucknell took the lead once more in the second, 4-3, when Cannizzaro singled home senior Caleb Broughton, who singled earlier in the inning. Â
Lafayette seemed to break open the game shortly afterwards when it scored five runs in the fifth, two of which were unearned. The Leopards' Blaze Fadio capped off the inning with a two-run home run, as Lafayette took an 8-4 lead after two. Â
Bucknell claimed the lead for the third time, this time for good, in the top of the third as it scored six runs in the frame. Â
Bucknell's first seven batters reached base in the inning, as Henry Novicki, Jacob Terwilliger, and Jacob Corson each picked up RBI singles in the inning. Bucknell also managed runs in the frame from a bases-loaded walk by Broughton, a fielder's choice, and a sac fly by Cannizzaro to take a 10-8 lead. Â
Bucknell pulled away with a run in the fourth on an RBI double by Terwilliger, a sac fly from Marren in the fifth, and another sac fly from Corson in the seventh en route to a 13-8 win. Â
Starting pitcher Chris DiFiore threw his second complete game of the season, and settled in nicely after the third, keeping the Leopards off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game, and scattering just three hits over the final four innings. Â DiFiore earned his fifth win of the season on Sunday, and struck out a career-high 10 batters in the win. Â
Cannizzaro managed a career-best four hits in the win, hitting two doubles and scoring a run in the victory. Marren and Terwilliger also added multiple hits with two each, while Pierson hit his third home run of the season and his second in three games after going yard on Wednesday against Saint Joseph's. Â
