LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The Bucknell University baseball team capped off its weekend series with Lehigh by posting 13 hits in a 14-4 win over Lehigh on Sunday afternoon at Depew Field.
Bucknell (10-17, 10-13 PL), now 5-2 in its last seven after a seven-game losing streak earlier this season, earned its second consecutive series win in taking two of three from the Mountain Hawks over the weekend.
Bucknell used a four-run first inning to start the game brightly, extending that lead to 8-0 in the third in support of starter Chris DiFiore, who earned his fourth win of the year. The Bison pulled away after Lehigh managed to reduce the advantage to five, 8-3, with a five-run seventh.
Bucknell started the game brightly, as Chris Cannizzaro started things off with an excellent piece of hitting to hit an opposite-field double down the right field line. An error by the Mountain Hawks then allowed Peter Marren to reach and score Cannizzaro all the way from first, before the senior moved to third on a wild pitch. Marren was brought home by Kendall Pierson, who hit a long double to left center to double Bucknell's advantage.
Jacob Terwilliger then singled home Pierson, before a double steal by the Bison allowed Henry Novicki, who walked earlier in the inning to touch home for Bucknell's fourth run.
DiFiore proved effective once again in his second straight start against the Mountain Hawks after earning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors in his last outing in Bethlehem.
DiFiore allowed just two hits through the first four innings, and the Bison added four more runs of support to give the sophomore a healthy lead in bottom of the third. Another error by the Mountain Hawks allowed Pierson to reach, before Novicki's second walk of the day put two men on.
Terwilliger moved both runners on a well-executed bunt, before Pierson touched home after Lehigh looked to get the lead runner on a fielder's choice. Novicki then scored on an error in the Lehigh infield, before Jacob Corson rounded out the scoring with a two-RBI single that plated Caleb Broughton and Logan Kellerman.
Lehigh pulled three runs back in the fifth, but DiFiore responded with a clean sixth inning to keep the Mountain Hawks at bay. DiFiore was replaced in the seventh by Anthony Casciola, and the six-inning outing for DiFiore marks the fifth time in his last six appearances that the native of Mount Kisco, N.Y. has pitched at least six innings.
Pierson singled home Corson for Bucknell's lone run in the sixth to make the score 9-4, before a five-run seventh put the game out of reach.
Bucknell managed seven hits in the seventh, as Kellerman, Broughton, and Anthony Sherwin each singled to start the inning, with the single by Sherwin plating Kellerman for Bucknell's first run. Cannizzaro then doubled for the second time in the game to score two more, before touching home himself on a wild pitch. Terwilliger rounded out the scoring in the inning on an RBI single as Bucknell scored a season-high 14 runs in the victory.

Bucknell will have the week to prepare for four big games against Lafayette at it looks to make up ground in the race for the Patriot League playoffs. The Bison will host the Leopards on Saturday, May 1 for a doubleheader before traveling to Easton for two games on Sunday, May 2.
