STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's golf team played 36 holes in one day for the first time this spring, and the Bison got off to a slow start Saturday at the Rutherford Invitational at the Penn State Blue Course. The Bison, who were a mid-week entry into the field, posted rounds of 302 and 301 and sit in 13th place heading into Sunday's final round.Â
Kent State, ranked 38th nationally, ran out to the 36-hole lead with rounds of 284 and 285. The 569 composite is three better than second-place Loyola, which followed a 292 opening round by pacing the 14-team field with a 281 in the afternoon. Penn State (575), Maryland (576) and Rutgers (577) round out the top five.  Â
Jackson Bussell is the low Bison through 36 holes. Bussell opened with an even-par 71 and followed it up with a 74. His 145 total puts him in a tie for 22nd place. Bussell made eight birdies on the day, four in each round, including a run of three in a row on holes 6-7-8 in the opening round.Â
Blake Wisdom shook off a morning 78 with a 72 in round two. He went out in 2-under 34 in the afternoon, keyed by a stretch of three birdies in five holes. Chris Tanabe (74-78) and Jack Gardner (79-77) also had counting scores for the Bison, while freshman Max Orwicz shot 86-83.Â
