VILLANOVA, Pa. --Â Chris Tanabe and Blake Wisdom turned in top-10 finishes as the Bucknell men's golf team placed third in a field of 15 teams at Villanova's Wildcat Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday at Radnor Valley Country Club. Tanabe led the team with a 2-over-par 72 in the final round, and he and Wisdom both finished in a tie for sixth place with 36-hole totals of 143 (+3).Â
Jack Gardner and Jason Lohwater also provided highlights for the Bison on Tuesday. Lohwater made an eagle at the par-5 seventh hole, and Gardner made a run of three straight birdies at holes 11-12-13. Gardner finished with a 73, followed by Wisdom and Jackson Bussell with 75s to give the Bison a 295 team score.Â
St. John's began the day with a five-stroke lead over Bucknell, and the Red Storm had to hold on to beat hard-charging Temple by one shot. The Owls posted the best day two score with a 281, thanks in large part to a 69 from former Bison standout Peter Bradbeer, who is using his final year of eligibilty as a graduate student at Temple.Â
St. John's logged a 36-hole total of 573, followed by Temple with 574 and Bucknell with 577. Drexel (579) and Villanova (581) rounded out the top five, with Patriot League rivals Lafayette (582), Lehigh (587) and Colgate (598) finishing sixth, eighth and T-12th, respectively.Â
Rider's Nathan Bazant won the individual title with a 1-under 139 (70-69). He held off Temple's Conor McGrath and St. John's Jack Simon by one stroke.Â
Bucknell now has a first, two seconds and a third in four events this spring. That's good for a composite 37-4-1 head-to-head record, including an 10-0 mark against Patriot League competition.Â
