Baseball Falls in Two Games to La Salle on Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell University baseball team dropped two games to La Salle in its first home game since April 2019 on Saturday afternoon.
Bucknell (0-3, 0-0 PL) dropped the first game 7-0 before falling to the Explorers in game two 5-4.
Game One: La Salle 7, Bucknell 0
The Explorers broke open a 0-0 game in the top of the fourth, scoring all seven of its runs during the frame en route to a 7-0, seven-inning win in game one. La Salle picked up six of its 10 hits in the game in the inning.
Bucknell managed just one hit during the game, a first-career triple for Chris Cannizzaro triple in the bottom of the first. Brenden Tuttle made his first start of the season for the Bison in the defeat, while Bryce Reimer and Austin Odell each made appearances for Bucknell out of the bullpen. The game was Reimer's collegiate debut, while Odell made his first appearance for Bucknell since April 28, 2019 against Lehigh after recovering from an injury this past season.
Game Two: La Salle 5, Bucknell 4
The Explorers took game two in a come-from-behind victory, scoring two runs in the top of the seventh to hold on for a 5-4 win over the Bison.
La Salle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third, capitalizing on a Bison error after a double from Tatem Levins allowed extra bases. The Explorers then used an RBI groundout from Elijah Dickerson to score Levins and double its lead one batter later.
Starter Will Greer, in his first appearance for the Bison since an impressive outing in a win over Central Michigan last year, had another solid day in pitching five innings with five strikeouts while allowing three hits.
Bucknell, which managed 11 hits in game two compared to just two combined in its first two games, took the lead with a three-run fourth inning. Jacob Corson and Chris Cannizzaro started the inning with back-to-back singles, before advancing a bag on a wild pitch. Peter Marren grounded out to short to score Corson, before a hit-by-pitch and a wild pitch put Cannizzaro and Henry Novicki in scoring position.
Eunsang Yu then stepped up and hit a two-RBI single that scored the two runners to give Bucknell a 3-2 lead. The Bison added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth after a single by Marren scored Caleb Broughton. Broughton led off the inning with a single, before stealing second.
La Salle pulled one run back in the top of the sixth, before eventually taking the lead for good in the top of the seventh. An RBI single from Will Binder and an RBI groundout from Alfonse Sadallah in the inning put the Explorers back up a run, 5-4, after seven.
Bucknell's best chance to win the game came in the bottom of the ninth after two-out singles by Corson and Cannizzaro put the tying run in scoring position. However, the Explorers managed to get a force out at third to end the game and drop the Bison to 0-3 this season.
Connor Vucovich and Graeme Carroll each made their collegiate debut in relief for the Bison, while Andrew Funovits also pitched an inning of relief in his first appearance of the season.
Cannizzaro posted a career-best four hits on the day , including another triple for a triple in back-to-back games. Henry Novicki, who posted a two-run home run to put Bucknell ahead at Mount St. Marys', also added two hits. Jacob Corson added two hits for Bucknell in his second career start. Marren and Yu each added two RBIs.
Bucknell begins conference play with a road doubleheader at Navy on March 13.
