ANNAPOLIS, Md. – No. 18/16 Navy edged the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, 13-10, on Sunday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
Though the Bison (1-3, 0-3 PL) drew within two strikes by scoring three of the fourth quarter's first four goals, the Midshipmen (3-0, 1-0 PL) held on to emerge victorious in their first game following a 28-day layoff.
The teams traded goals throughout the contest, with neither building more than a one-goal cushion until the middle of the third quarter. Up until Navy's game-deciding 5-0 run, which stretched from the third frame's 9:31 to 3:49 marks, the teams were tied six times and twice traded leads.
The Midshipmen's 5-0 run gave them an 11-6 advantage, their largest of the contest. Alston Tarry halted that run with a highlight-reel goal; the junior spun his way out of a Navy double team and then, while diving out of the way of a charging defenseman, found the back of the net.
For the Bison, Brenden Lundy netted his second-straight hat trick while Tarry contributed a goal and two assists. Sumner Brumbaugh (2g), Dutch Furlong (2g) and Harry Wellford (1g-1a) also enjoyed multi-point outings.
Nick Crovatto won nine of 13 faceoffs while Conor McCusker went six for 11. Danny Striano collected a game-best eight ground balls while Tarry and Clark scooped up five apiece. Bryant Boswell and Travis Talarico each caused two turnovers.
Rees made 17 saves to outduel Ben Clark, who finished with 10. Patrick Skalniak (2g-4a), Christian Daniel (2g-2a) and Jack Sweeny (3g) paced the Navy attack.
Bucknell led in shots (47-35), shots on goal (27-23) and faceoffs (15-9) while the Midshipmen held the advantage in ground balls (42-38). The Bison went 2-for-7 on their man advantages while Navy went 2-for-4.
Bucknell next welcomes Colgate to Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium for a noon game on Saturday, April 3.

Tarry's strike not only made the Bison's bench erupt, it also re-ignited their offense. It was the first goal of a 4-1 run that trimmed Bucknell's deficit to 12-10 at the fourth quarter's 7:11 mark. After Spencer Rees denied a Tarry bid with 4:42 remaining in regulation, Tyler Perreten capped the game's scoring on the next Midshipman possession."A herculean effort." 🤯
