PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team played the first of two matches scheduled against Temple this weekend on Saturday, falling 7-0 to the Owls on the road. With the loss, the Bison move to 1-4 on the season and the Owls improve to 5-1. It was the Bison's second consecutive road match, and the team will see the Owls again tomorrow before getting into Patriot League play next weekend.
The Bison took a pair of singles matches down to the wire, while posting a rare 0-3 showing in doubles play.
Marwan Abaza made his return this weekend, but suffered a 6-2, 6-2 loss at No. 1 singles where the senior is 9-5 over the last two years. Junior Cooper Bradshaw put up a strong effort at No. 3 singles before also falling 7-5, 6-3 to graduate student Eric Biscoveanu.
Nick Mueller also put up a fight at No. 4 singles before falling 6-2, 7-6 (7) to junior Louis Gorregues.
Bradshaw and sophomore Michael Owen, who are 11-4 all-time as doubles partners, dropped their court one match 6-2 to Temple's top tandem, while Mueller and Abaza battled at No. 2 doubles. The pair eventually fell 6-4 and relinquished the doubles point.
Bucknell looks to even the two-match series with Temple tomorrow when it hosts the Owls at the Hershey Racquet Club in Hershey, Pa. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
After this weekend, the Bison dive into Patriot League play with a road match at Colgate on Saturday, April 3.
