HERSHEY, Pa. – Bucknell men's tennis completed the second match of a two-match series against Temple on Sunday evening, falling 6-1 to the Owls in Hershey, Pa. Bucknell's point came from sophomore Nick Mueller, who won at No. 3 singles and improved to 4-2 in singles play this spring.
Mueller took on Temple graduate student Eric Biscoveanu and won 6-4, 6-2, avenging Cooper Bradshaw's loss to Biscoveanu in the same position in Saturday's match. Mueller, who arrived at Bucknell after spending his rookie season at Richmond, now leads the Bison with four singles victories on the season.
Sophomore Guillermo Torres put up a strong fight at No. 5 singles, but eventually fell in three sets (6-2, 1-6, 6-3) to junior Thibault Frumholz. Meanwhile, senior Marwan Azaba, who was playing in the No. 2 singles position, nearly forced a third set before falling 6-1, 7-6 (4) to Leo Raquin.
Bucknell shook things up in the doubles lineup, with Abaza and Mueller taking on Temple's top tandem while Owen and Bradshaw played at No. 3. The Bison were ultimately swept in the doubles point after earning it in the first two matches of the season.
Bucknell fell to 1-4 this spring with the loss, and Temple improved to a 6-1 overall mark.
Up next, Bucknell heads to Colgate for its first Patriot League match in almost two years. Bucknell went 5-3 in conference play in 2019. The Bison and the Raiders are scheduled to square off on Saturday, April 3 in Hamilton, N.Y. at 2 p.m.
