BALTIMORE – No. 12 Loyola downed the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, 24-10, on Saturday at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
The Greyhounds (4-2, 2-1 PL) used a 9-0 second quarter to build a 17-5 halftime advantage and never looked back. The Bison (1-2, 0-2 PL) received four-point efforts from Tommy Sopko (3g-1a) and Alston Tarry (1g-3a), with Sopko tying for second among all players with seven ground balls.
For Loyola, Kevin Lindley (7g-1a) and Aidan Olmstead (3g-5a) led the potent attack. Bailey Savio won 20 of 31 faceoffs and scooped up 13 ground balls while Matt Hughes caused three turnovers.
The Greyhounds finished in striking distance of the most goals scored against Bucknell. In 1978, Hobart defeated the Bison by a 28-8 margin. This was the first time since 2014, a 20-4 loss at then No. 5 North Carolina, that Bucknell allowed more than 20 goals in a game.
For the Bison, Brenden Lundy netted his first career hat trick. Reid Delanois, Joe Scattareggia and Danny Striano each collected four ground balls. Reserve faceoff specialist Conor McCusker saw his first significant action in the X and won a solid eight out of 12.
Each team used three goalies, with Bucknell's combining for nine saves and Loyola's 13.
The Greyhounds held advantages in shots (51-37), shots on goal (33-23), ground balls (44-37) and faceoffs (22-15).
The Bison next travel to Army West Point for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday, March 27.
