About the Bison
- Bucknell earned its first win of the season against Lehigh on Saturday to earn a split on the day, thanks in large part to the brilliant pitching performance of Will Greer. The sophomore pitched seven innings of scoreless baseball while scattering five hits and striking out a career-high eight batters. Greer has now struck out at least five batters in three straight appearances, and has also gone at least five innings in three straight starts.
- First year Jacob Corson contributed in a big way in helping the Bison offense find some footing after only managing one hit in two of its first three games.
- Corson, who hails from nearby Muncy, Pennsylvania, earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors after he posted a season-best three hits against Lehigh on Sunday, and also went 1-for-3 with a run scored in Bucknell's 4-3 win against the Mountain Hawks on Saturday. Corson has hit successfully in four straight games, and plated Bucknell's tenth run to give the Bison the lead in Sunday's contest.
- Corson, Anthony Sherwin, and Grant Voytovich are Bucknell's only first year who have started at least four games for the Orange and Blue this season.
- Senior Peter Marren also had a strong series against the Mountain Hawks. The native of Darien, Connecticut hit .500 (5-for-10), and drove in three runs while slugging .700. Marren was also hit by four pitches during the stretch, three more than any other Bison during that time frame.
- Jacob Terwilliger made his season debut on the mound, and provided a strong performance in Bucknell's 12-inning game against Lehigh Sunday. Terwilliger scattered three hits and struck out six while walking just one in 3.2 innings.
- Several other Bison pitchers had notable performances over the weekend. Senior Brenden Tuttle started out strongly against Lehigh in a narrow game one defeat on Saturday. The senior from Hollywood, Florida threw a career-best 11 strikeouts while pitching five innings, allowing two hits, and walking just one batter. Tuttle has now thrown at least seven strikeouts in two of his past three appearances in the Orange and Blue, and needs just four more strikeouts in 2021 for a career-best for a single season.
- Sophomore Anthony Cascioloa also provided strong innings out of the bullpen, pitching four innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four. The four innings for Casciola Sunday eclipsed his season total as a first year, and the four strikeouts doubled his season output of 2020.
About Army/Series History
- Bucknell last played the Black Knights on March 31, 2019 at Depew Field, and went 2-3 overall that season.
- Army took two of three in the home series that had two games decided by one run.
- In Bucknell's 7-6 win in the series finale, the Bison garnered a walk-off win on a walk by Jared Drizin.
- Tuttle, who was one of Bucknell's top relievers at the time, earned his first career win for the Orange and Blue that day after he pitched a 12-pitch shutout inning in the ninth with a strikeout.
- Caleb Broughton also appeared in that game as Bucknell's only other current student-athlete to make an appearance in the series finale. Broughton started the game at second base, and went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. The senior started Bucknell's four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth with a walk on a full count, and came around to score Bucknell's first run of the inning on a single from Tyler Wincig.
- Army is 3-8 this season, and is coming off a 12-4 win over UAlbany. The Black Knights have not competed in Patriot League play this season.
- Bucknell is 56-76 all-time against Army.
