No. 11 Lehigh Dispatches Bucknell Men's Lacrosse

LEWISBURG, Pa. – No. 11 Lehigh dispatched the Bucknell men's lacrosse team, 18-6, on Sunday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.Â
The Mountain Hawks (3-0, 2-0 PL) raced out to an early advantage and never looked back, ultimately scoring their largest margin of victory over the Bison (1-1, 0-1 PL) in program history. Lehigh's potent attack was led by Kevin Gersbeck (4g-1a), Tommy Schelling (1g-4a), Cole Kirst (3g-1a) and John Sidorski (1g-3a).
The Mountain Hawks, who were coming off an upset of then No. 10 Loyola (Md.), scored the game's first four goals. While Bucknell netted two of the second quarter's first three tallies to cut its deficit to 5-2, Lehigh closed the frame with five unanswered strikes to carry a 10-2 advantage into the intermission. The Bison wouldn't draw closer than three goals again the rest of the way.
Strong play in the faceoff x contributed to the Mountain Hawks' success. Overall, Lehigh won 19 of 29 faceoffs, with Mike Sisselberger taking an impressive 16 of 23 and collecting a game-high 12 ground balls.
For Bucknell, Tommy Sopko netted a hat trick, bringing his season total of goals to 11. Harry Wellford contributed one goal and two helpers. Reid Delanois scooped up four ground balls and caused a turnover.
Two Bison goalies saw action. Ben Clark stopped 11 shots while Daniel Parson made four saves. James Spence had a strong game in the Mountain Hawk net, turning aside 15 shots.
Lehigh led in shots (50-38), shots on goal (33-21) and ground balls (52-20). The Mountain Hawks also caused 11 turnovers, with Anthony Tangredi (3), Spence (2) and Teddy Leggett (2) causing more than one.
Bucknell next travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 2 p.m. game on Saturday, March 20.
