Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Lafayette, 15-7

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's lacrosse team began Patriot League play with a commanding 15-7 victory over Lafayette on Saturday at Graham Field.
The Bison (1-1, 1-0 PL) opened the second half with a 7-0 run to pull away from the Leopards (0-2, 0-2 PL). Bucknell's attack was led by senior Julia Bradbury, who netted a career-best five goals, first year Ellie Mayer, who scored the first three goals of her collegiate career, and Katie Wendell, who followed up a five-point (1g-4a) outing against St. Bonaventure with a six-point (2g-4a) performance against Lafayette.
In the second half, the Bison played lock-down defense. After watching the Leopards cut their 6-1 advantage down to 8-6 before halftime, they didn't give up another goal until the second half's 6:18 mark. In total, Bucknell kept Lafayette off of the board for an impressive 26:21.
Caitlin Tucker, who took over in net after the intermission, made six saves and scooped up three ground balls; in addition, six Bison caused multiple turnovers, led by Caroline Walsh (4) and Eva Macris (3).
Bucknell's victory was second-year head coach Jackie Dando's first in Patriot League play. She led the Bison to a 3-5 record during their abbreviated 2020 campaign; their season was canceled the week they were scheduled to host then No. 19 Navy for their Patriot League opener.
Laurel McHale (2g-1a), Kali Peeples (2g-1a) and Walsh (1g-1a) also enjoyed multi-point efforts. Tucker tied McHale and Emily Baird for the team lead in ground balls. Ella Payer logged five draw controls while Peeples and Emma Cashwell contributed three apiece.
For the Leopards, Meghan McLachlan registered two goals and a helper while Quinn Lacy stopped seven shots. Lexie Coldiron also made four saves in her 6:18 of action, not ceding a goal.
Bucknell led Lafayette in shots (38-22), shots on goal (26-15), ground balls (24-17) and draw controls (15-9). The Bison went 2-for-4 on their free-position shots while holding the Leopards a scoreless 0-2. Turnovers plagued Lafayette throughout the game; overall, the Leopards turned over the ball 22 times and failed to clear on five occasions.
Bucknell next hosts Patriot League power Loyola (Md.) on Saturday, March 20. The opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
