About the Bison
• Bucknell kicked off its 2021 spring season with a pair of wins over North Carolina A&T last weekend. The Bison won 8-3 in the first game, then picked up an 11-7 victory in game two. They were the first two wins of head coach Sarah Caffrey's career.
• Bucknell hit the ball well in the season-opening weekend. As a team, the Bison batted .413 and racked up five extra-base hits. Bucknell also reached on walks 10 times, with senior Jess Hom accounting for three. The team posted a .480 on-base percentage.
• Three of the Bison's extra-base hits came from rookie Zoie Smith, who was named the Patriot League Player of the Week after going 5-for-8 with two doubles, two RBIs, a home run, and four runs scored.
• Senior Tara Baglivo and juniors Sarah Baluch and Nicole Rivait all hit .500 or above as well last weekend. Baluch and Rivait each posted three RBIs.
• Junior pitcher Kelly Toomey was an honorable mention for Patriot League Pitcher of the Week after picking up the win in game one. Sophomore Kaiya Burton also collected her first win of the season after going five innings in the circle in game two. Sophomore Olivia Marinelli was credited with the first save of her career.
• A win on Saturday would give Bucknell its best start to a season since 2017, when the team opened 3-0.
Scouting the Lancers
• Longwood is 6-13 through the first three weeks of its season. The Lancers have wins over Marshall, East Carolina, Seton Hall, and Georgia, which ranked No.16 at the time. Longwood has faced three top-25 teams already this season.
• Longwood hosted Marshall on Wednesday and won both games of the doubleheader..
• The Lancers are led by first-year head coach Dr. Megan Brown. Former Bucknell assistant coach Matt Burns is also on the coaching staff. Burns served as a stand-in at head coach of the Bison last season.
