About the Bison
- Bucknell hosts its annual fall invitational this week, and all 10 Bison will be in action.
- The Bucknell Invitational is a three-day event for the first time, with 18 holes slated each day from Sunday through Tuesday.
- In the first round, Bucknell will be paired with Army West Point and a team from the Veteran Golfers Association. The VGA supports military veterans and their families through the sport of golf. The organization sponsors more than 450 local tournaments across the country and also stages a national championship each fall. The VGA enters a team in a number of college tournaments as well, and Bucknell head coach Mike Binney, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran himself, invited them to this year's Bucknell Invitational.
- This is Bucknell's third of five fall tournaments. The Bison already competed at events hosted by Colgate and Yale, and they have compiled a 297.8 team scoring averaged through six rounds.
- Jason Lohwater and Jackson Bussell lead the way with 72.8 averages. Bussell was the low Bison at Yale's Macdonald Cup, finishing T-11th with rounds of 71-71-73. Lohwater led the way at Colgate with 69-74-76, good for a T-13th finish.
- Lohwater's 3-under-par 69 in the first round of the season is Bucknell's low score of the fall thus far.
- This week's top unit consists of Bussell, Lohwater, Josh Holtschlag, Blake Wisdom and John Bradbeer. Jack Gardner, Michael Rudnick, Max Orwicz, Dylan Ford and Jake Maddaloni will play for the B squad.
- Ford, Holtschlag and Orwicz will be making their season tournament debuts.
- Bucknell has been very successful in its home tournament in recent years, winning six of the last 17 titles, while finishing as the runner-up on five other occasions in that span.
- The Bison have won their home tournament seven times, including four straight titles from 2007-10, Bucknell also won this event in 1981, 2003 and 2004.
- Bison winning individual titles include Rob Wagner in 1981, Kyle Moran in 2004, Stuart Lindgren in 2007, Jeff Pike in 2008, Andrew Cohen in 2009, and Dan Bernard in 2012.
- The most recent Bucknell Invitational was staged in the fall of 2019, with the 2020 event canceled due to COVID-19. Colgate won the 2019 event with a 572 team score for 36 holes, followed closely by Detroit (574) and Bucknell (575).
- Jonathan Brillati of Detroit was the 2019 medalist with a 2-under 138 (70-68).
- Peter Bradbeer was the low Bison that year with an even-par 140 (69-71). Chris Tanabe finished T-8th at +2, followed by Blake Wisdom (+6) and Jackson Bussell (+7).
- Bucknell travels to the D.C. area to play in the Howard Invitational for the first time on Oct. 17-18. The event will be held at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Md.
