
Volleyball's Weekend Ends with 3-0 Loss at Navy Midshipmen

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell volleyball team challenged Navy in a Patriot League matchup at Alumni Hall Saturday afternoon and fell 3-0 on the road. The Mids posted an impressive .324 hitting percentage and won two of the three sets by double digits.
Sophomore Libby Nieporte led Bucknell (6-16, 2-11 PL) in kills with eight, but it wasn't enough as Navy (9-11, 5-6 PL) ran away with the victory.
Bucknell held the edge early in the first set, leading 10-8 before a 7-1 run by the Midshipmen swung the momentum. The Mids ended the first set one a 10-1 run as the Bison committed 12 attack errors against two for Navy. The 25-13 loss in the first set was Bucknell's largest deficit of the match.
The Bison posted their best hitting percentage of the match (.207) in the second frame, but the Mids were off to an early 11-5 lead. Bucknell pulled within four of tying at 18-14 with three unanswered points, but again the home team ended things on a 7-2 run to secure a second set victory at 25-16. Navy hit .412 and .364 over the first and second sets, respectively.
Bucknell's only lead in set three was at 2-1. The Mids rattled off a pair of 4-0 runs to take a 14-9 lead, and five more unanswered points put the Bison in a 21-12 hole that they were unable to recover from. Navy collected the 25-15 victory and its eighth 3-0 sweep of the season.
For the Bison, Sarah Ramirez totaled a team-high 17 assists, and four different players posted blocks. Jordan Hardy finished with five digs.
Bucknell is back in Davis Gym on Friday, Nov. 5 for its home finale against Lehigh. It's also Senior Day Friday, and the Bison will be celebrating the careers of four graduating players. Bucknell then heads to Lafayette on Sunday, Nov. 7 to take on Lafayette.
