About Bucknell
- Bucknell has just one game on tap for this weekend, a Friday night home contest against the Colgate Raiders that will help determine Patriot League seeding for the upcoming postseason tournament. It's Bucknell's final home game of the regular season. The Raiders are seeking their first victory on the season, and the Bison are looking to improve to 4-1 in league play.
- The Bison went 1-1 last weekend, collecting a big 6-1 win over Lehigh on Saturday before falling 2-1 to No. 24 Kent State on Sunday. Bucknell posted a program-record nine assists in Saturday's game and jumped the Mountain Hawks in league standings with the victory. Kent State was the fifth ranked opponent the Bison have faced this season. Although Bucknell held the Golden Flashes to just four shots and no corner attempts, the Bison were unable to find an equalizer after cutting the deficit to 2-1 in the final 10 minutes.
- Bucknell secured one of four spots in the upcoming Patriot League Tournament with Saturday's win over the Mountain Hawks. The team has earned a playoff berth during all 14 seasons of head coach Jeremy Cook's regime. American, Lafayette and Lehigh are the other three teams to qualify this season. Specific seeding for the tournament has yet to be determined.
- Bucknell converted on four of five penalty corners in the Lehigh game and is second in the Patriot League with 105 corner opportunities this season. Sunday's game against Kent State was the second time this season that Bucknell has not allowed a penalty corner to an opponent.
- The Bison rank first among Patriot League teams and fifth in the nation with 2.86 assists per game this season. Bucknell has three of the top-six assists leaders in the league. Mackenzie Kile leads the Patriot League with nine on the season after posting three in Saturday's victory. Erin Zielinski is third with seven, and Noor Kaur now ranks sixth following her record-breaking five assists against the Mountain Hawks.
- Kaur, who earned Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Monday, broke a Bucknell record with five assists on Saturday. No other player in NCAA Division I field hockey has registered more than three this season.
- Lily Neilson earned her fourth PL Rookie of the Week award of the season on Monday after scoring three goals during the Lehigh victory. It was Neilson's second hat trick of the season, and she remains the league's leading goal-scorer with 12 on the year. Along with Kaur, Neilson also set a new school record this season with five goals and 10 points in a win over Holy Cross. She ranks 10th in the country with her 0.85 goals per game.
- As a team, the Bison are third in the league in scoring with 2.36 goals per game. They've scored four or more in three games this fall, and 12 different players have contributed to the category. Mary Kate Stefanowicz is second on the team with six.
- Zielinski was an honorable mention for Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week Monday after scoring the first goal of her career and playing all 120 minutes over the weekend.
- Junior goalkeeper Clara McCormick has started all 14 contests this fall. She possesses a .647 save percentage and a 2.11 goals against average while posting one shutout.
- Bucknell is 6-0 in games that go past regulation since the start of last season, including two overtime wins this fall.
- For the first time in program history, Bucknell entered the 2021 field hockey season as reigning champions after collecting a Patriot League title in the spring and posting a first-round win over VCU in the NCAA tournament. Bucknell finished the 2020-21 season with a 6-4 overall record. After dropping their first three games of the spring season by a combined score of 10-1, the Bison turned things around and won six in a row to reach the NCAA quarterfinals. Bucknell limited opponents to one goal per game during the winning streak, and four of the victories went past regulation.
- Head coach Jeremy Cook is in his 14th season with the program. With a 127-123 career record, Cook is one victory shy of matching the program's all-time wins record. Cook has guided the Bison to the Patriot League Tournament every season since joining the team in 2008 and has posted a .500 overall record or better in each of the last five.
