LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Mackenzie Kile scored two goals in Friday night's game against Colgate to lead the field hockey team to a 4-2 victory at Graham Field. After the Bison built a 2-0 advantage over the initial 24 minutes of the game, the Raiders scored two unanswered to even it up. The Bison responded with two fourth-quarter goals to win their final home game of the regular season.
With the win, head coach Jeremy Cook collected his 128th career victory with the Bison and is now tied for the most wins in program history. Bucknell improved to 8-7 overall and 4-1 in Patriot League play, while Colgate fell to 0-12 (0-5 PL).
Bucknell led 15-9 in shots, and Colgate held a 6-2 edge in penalty corners. Both goalkeepers finished with three saves apiece.
After both teams went scoreless over the first 10 minutes of action, Kile got the Bison on the board with her third goal of the season. Sophomore Mia Fields sent a long pass from the left wing that went through traffic and reached Kile are the far side of the circle, who finished it off to put the Bison up 1-0.
Bucknell struck again during the second quarter as Lily Neilson sent a high-arcing shot from the top of the circle that went right over the Colgate keeper's reach and into the cage. It was Neilson's Patriot League-leading 13th goal of the season and gave the Bison a 2-0 cushion with under six minutes to play in the half. Colgate responded quickly, however, scoring on a penalty corner in the 28th minute.
Following a scoreless third quarter, Colgate tied the game three minutes into the fourth off another corner opportunity. Bucknell was awarded a penalty stroke less than 60 seconds later, and Kile made the most of it by shooting to the goalkeeper's left for her second goal of the contest.
The Bison added to the lead with under three minutes to go in the game when Rachel Apa scored off an Emily Doyle assist to go up 4-2 and put the comeback just out of reach. It was Apa's third goal this fall.
Cook's 128th victories tie Heather Lewis' all-time mark. He's led the Bison to a Patriot League Tournament berth in all 14 seasons and has one Patriot League Championship title and one NCAA tournament win.
Bucknell plays two road games next weekend to close out the regular season. The Bison visit Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 30 and Drexel on Sunday, Oct. 31.
