Volleyball Topped by Navy Midshipmen at Home

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell volleyball hosted the Navy Midshipmen at Davis Gym Friday evening and fell in three sets despite a strong rally in the second. The Mids were powered by five players hitting above .300. Meanwhile, Bucknell's Catherine Jamison led the Bison with 12 kills, and the sophomore has now been in double figures in the category in four of the last five matches.
Bucknell fell to 5-9 (1-4 PL) with the loss while Navy improved to 6-7 (2-2 PL).
Navy cruised to a match-high .286 hitting percentage in the first set and picked up its largest margin of victory on the day with a 25-15 win. The Mids created separation with a pair of 4-0 runs during the first set, including one that extended the deficit to 9-3 early on and another that put them up 16-8. Bucknell strung together back-to-back points three times in the first but saw no extended runs.
Bucknell found itself trailing again in the second, 21-15, but used a 5-0 run that involved three kills by Jamison and a Lisa Zoch service ace to pull within one at 21-20. The Mids ended the frame on a 4-1 run to take a 2-0 lead in sets.
Navy hit above .280 again in set three. The Mids were hot from the start of the set, taking a 7-1 lead before a Bison timeout ended the run. Bucknell scored three unanswered thanks to a Sarah Ramirez service ace and a pair of attack errors by the Mids to pull within four at 13-9, but it was as close as the home team would get before Navy won 25-16 and put an end to the match.
Other notable performances by the Bison included a .400 hitting percentage with six kills to go along with two block assists and a block solo from sophomore Valentina Feigl. Ramirez totaled a team-high 26 assists in the match, and rookie Jordan Hardy led the squad with 11 digs.
Bucknell returns to Davis Gym on Saturday to host the American Eagles. Bucknell won the last meeting against American, a 3-0 upset at Davis during the spring 2020-21 season. Saturday's match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
