Bucknell Student-Athlete Enrichment Provides Resources During These Challenging Times

LEWISBURG, Pa. – During the course of a "normal" school year, the Bucknell Student-Athlete Enrichment office provides a plethora value-added programming to help Bison student-athletes succeed not just in competition, but in all of their future endeavors. Through collaboration with campus resources, in-house programming and external constituents, a variety of different workshops, events and speaker opportunities are provided to student-athletes, coaches and staff, all dovetailing into the program's main areas of Develop, Lead and Engage.
Now, like so many other student-support programs across campus, the Student-Athlete Enrichment team has made a major pivot. Led by senior associate director of athletics Jen Kentera and student-athlete development assistant Eline Vermeulen, the department is now primarily focused on providing resources for student-athletes coping with the shift to remote learning, the cancellation of competitions and training opportunities, uncertain career opportunities, and so much more as the world unites in an attempt to get through the coronavirus pandemic.
The Student-Athlete Enrichment office recently posted a thorough resource guide on the BucknellBison.com website, designed to help Bison student-athletes -- and others; there is plenty of useful information for all – navigate these uncertain times.
The resource page starts with a series of tips from Liz Brookhouse, who serves as the mental performance consultant for Bucknell Athletics. "Athletics, like life, teaches us many lessons — perhaps the most pertinent one now is that we must be flexible and resilient in the face of change," Brookhouse says in leading off her piece entitled "Resilience in Times of Change".
The resources under the Develop scope focus primarily on health and wellness, professional development and personal excellence. The Engage area provides advice on where to find community service ideas for those interested in making a difference in their community. There is also a section of resources for coaches.
"Student-Athlete Enrichment is committed to continuing to find ways to provide assistance during these challenging times," said Kentera. "This digital library provides up-to-date resources and engagement opportunities to holistically support our Bison student-athletes and coaches. We hope this page can complement the continued virtual support available from our staff."
