About the Bison
• Bucknell is set for a pair of matches against Monmouth and Saint Francis this weekend, and the team is looking to build upon a strong performance on Sunday where they defeated Siena 5-2 at home. The Bison won four singles matchups and claimed two of three in doubles against the Saints.
• Junior Marwan Abaza is 5-0 in singles to begin the spring season, most recently winning 6-2, 5-7, 10-5 in the number one singles slot against the Saints. Abaza ended last spring on a five-match winning streak as well.
• After losing in the season opener vs. Fordham, freshman Michael Owen has won four straight in singles.
• Sophomore Ryan Jurist has won back-to-back singles matches to improve to 3-2 on the season.
• Freshman Guillermo Torres is also coming off a 6-4, 6-2 victory in the match against the Saints.
• Owen and Bradshaw are 3-0 as a doubles tandem this season. The Duo won 6-0 over their opponents in the last match.
• Bucknell added junior Sam Yildirimlar to the roster last week. The Montville, N.J. native was an All-Conference player at Seton Hall Preparatory school before arriving at Bucknell.
Scouting Monmouth
• Monmouth began its season last weekend with wins over La Salle and Wagner. Both of those victories came at home.
• The Hawks posted an 18-2 overall and a 6-0 conference record last year. The team picked up a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship title for a fourth straight year in 2019.
• Monmouth senior Max Benaim was named MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week this week after going 1-0 at number one singles and 2-0 in number one doubles.
Scouting Saint Francis
• Saint Francis fell to 0-4 this season with road losses to Cleveland State and Youngstown State last weekend. The Red Flash also have a 7-0 loss to Lehigh.
• The Red Flash have just one returning player, junior Sebastian Pinos, from the 2018 spring team. The team did not compete in the spring of 2019.
Up Next
• Bucknell plays three matches between Friday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 23. The Bison host La Salle, Connecticut, and Marist, beginning with the Explorers that Friday. All three matches will be played at the Central PA Tennis Center in South Williamsport, Pa.
