LEWISBURG, Pa. – It was a tale of two halves at Graham Field on Saturday, as the Bucknell women's lacrosse team pumped in 10 first-half goals, but La Salle held the Bison to just one more in the second half and rallied for a 12-11 victory.
Senior Tegan Warren had a big day with a career-high five points on three goals and two assists for the Bison, who fell to 2-2 on the season. Caroline Walsh added two goals and an assist, while Eve Calabria, Julia Bradbury and Lillie Hunt all logged one goal and one assist.
Tori Rolon was the offensive star off the bench for La Salle (1-2). She scored all four of her goals in the final 30:20 of the game, including the team's last three. After the Explorers had trailed by as many as five goals in the first half, Rolon tied the game at 10-10 with 21:29 remaining in the second. After the Bison regained the lead on a Morgan Steinhacker goal with 19:55 to play, Rolon tied it up again with 6:34 left and then won it with a low shot with 3:14 to go.
Bucknell collected the draw just after Rolon's final goal, but the Bison had to force a contested shot just as the shot clock expired. Bucknell's defense, which forced 23 turnovers on the day, came up with a much-needed takeaway with Steinhacker nabbing a ground ball off a bad pass with about 40 seconds to go.
After a timeout, the Bison worked a beautiful play, with Calabria finding Tace Sutherland wide open on the back side, but Molly Loughlin came up with the clutch save with the game clock just inside 10 seconds.
The backup goalies were a big story in this one. After a flurry of early goals, La Salle went to Loughlin after 21 minutes, and Bucknell turned to Caitlin Tucker late in the first half. Tucker stopped made career-high 12 saves, 11 coming in the second half. Loughlin was credited with six saves and allowed only two goals in 38:45 of action.
After conceding the game's first goal 50 seconds in, the Bison dominated most of the remainder of the first half. Bradbury evened the score only 55 seconds after La Salle's opener, and only 26 seconds after that, Emma Cashwell finished a feed from Bradbury for a 2-1 lead.
Warren and Calabria followed to make it 4-1 as the Bison scored four straight goals on four shots in a span of only 3:56. Later in the half, consecutive tallies from Warren, Hunt, and Walsh gave Bucknell its largest lead of the day at 9-5.
The Explorers made some headway in the final nine minutes. Bridget Ruskey scored twice in succession to complete her hat trick, and then after Warren potted her third for Bucknell, Rolon scored with La Salle up a player with 20 seconds left to make it 10-7 at the half.
La Salle finished with a 33-24 shot advantage and a 15-10 edge in draw controls.
Jessie Britton had a productive day on the defensive end with a team-high four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Ella Payer led the Bison with three draw controls.
Bucknell heads on the road for its next four contests, starting Wednesday at UMBC at 5 p.m.\
