WASHINGTON, D.C. – Emily Doyle scored early in the second half of Bucknell's game against American Saturday afternoon, but the Bison ultimately fell short of a comeback after the Eagles put three on the board in the first two quarters.
Doyle found herself in perfect position after a Brittany Willwerth shot bounced off the goalkeeper's pad and wound up in front of her for a clear shot on goal. It was the third goal of the season for the sophomore forward.
Bucknell found more opportunities to chip away at the Eagle lead with four second-half shots, but eventually fell 3-1 in its second Patriot League game of the season.
It was an uphill battle from the start for the Bison, who allowed a pair of goals in the first quarter including one within the first minute of the game. Another Eagle goal near the end of the half put Bucknell down 3-0, which is the largest deficit the team has faced all season.
The Eagles tallied 11 shots in the game with eight on target, compared to six total shots for the Bison. Leah Fogelsanger led in that department with two shots in the second quarter. Senior goalkeeper Olivia Harris totaled five saves in the loss.
The Bison go to Towson, Md. tomorrow to take on the Tigers in a non-league contest. Bucknell leads the all-time series against Towson 19-10, and has won each of the last two meetings. Sunday's game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
