Field Hockey Blanks No. 25 Boston University, 1-0

BOSTON – Olivia Harris made five saves, and Maddie Rehak netted her second collegiate goal, to lift the Bucknell field hockey team to a 1-0 victory at No. 25 Boston University on Saturday.
The Bison (3-3, 1-0 Patriot League) snapped the Terriers' (3-4, 0-1 Patriot League) 17-game winning streak over Patriot League opponents at New Balance Field on the strength of their strong defensive effort. They allowed just five shots on goal over the course of the contest and kept Boston University from converting on five penalty corners, three of which came after Rehak's go-ahead goal.
Entering the game, Bucknell last edged a ranked opponent on Sept. 11, 2016, a 3-2 overtime win over then No. 12 Albany. The Bison had never before topped Boston University, winner of four of the past five Patriot League titles, on the road.
After a scoreless, tightly-contested opening half that saw the teams combine for five shots on goal, Bucknell struck in transition early in the third quarter. Two quick passes sprung Rehak on a partial breakaway down the left sideline; the first year then sent a rising shot over Caroline Kelly's shoulder and into the back of the cage.
The Bucknell defense stepped up in the game's final minutes, not allowing another look on Harris. The Bison blocked two shots before taking control of the ball during the final minute to drain many precious seconds off the clock.
Conolly and Brittany Willwerth tied for the game high with two shots on target; Willwerth led all players with four total shots. Rehak's goal was her second in three games; she netted her first collegiate goal in the Bison's 3-2 overtime loss at Richmond on Sept. 8.
Bucknell's only other victory over Boston University came on Oct. 4, 2014 at Graham Field, a 5-2 win. While the Bison had lost their previous eight games to the Terriers, seven were by a one-goal margin.
Bucknell will look to ride the momentum from its victory over Boston University into Sunday's tilt with Sacred Heart at Yale's Johnson Field. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m.

Harris made two saves in the fourth quarter to preserve the Bison's shutout. First, she denied a Kiley Gallagher bid on a penalty corner. Later on, after the Terriers emptied their net for an extra attacker, she sent a Jodie Conolly shot aside with 3:05 remaining in regulation.𝘈 𝘨𝘰𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳. 🙌
