Men's Golf Looks to Continue Hot Start to Season at Dartmouth Invitational

About the Bison

Bucknell is off to a tremendous start this fall, finishing in second place in each of its first two tournaments. The Bison finished three strokes behind Cornell in an 18-team field at the season-opening Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational at Colgate. Then last week, the Bison went to Cornell's home tournament and beat the Big Red, but they finished one shot behind Columbia for the title.
Bucknell's pair of second-place finishes matches the team's best start in 10 years. The Bison started out the 2009-10 campaign with a runner-up effort at Colgate followed by a win at the Bucknell Invitational in week two.
The key to Bucknell's early season success has been a pair of terrific Sunday finishes. At Colgate, the Bison posted a 1-over-par 289, which was its best score ever at Colgate's tournament and the best in the 18-team field that day. That score vaulted the Bison from a tie for seventh place all the way up to the runner-up position. A week later, Bucknell closed with a 3-under 281, which was again the best mark in the field.
Junior Chris Tanabe was the catalyst of last Sunday's strong finish. He carded a career-best, 4-under-par 67 on the heels of 70-74 the previous day. Tanabe finished T-3rd with a 211 total.
Three of Tanabe's six rounds this season have been under par, and he leads the squad with a 71.8 scoring average.
Bucknell has started two freshmen – Jack Gardner and Blake Wisdom -- in each of the first two weeks of the season. Gardner shot 73-73-71 last week at Cornell to finish T-14th, and he ranks second on the team with a 73.5 average. Wisdom is coming off a 72-75-72 showing last week, and his 73.8 average is tied with Jason Lohwater for third on the squad.
Tanabe, Gardner, Wisdom, Lohwater and Peter Bradbeer will comprise Bucknell's five-man lineup this week at Dartmouth. Lohwater shot 65 in qualifying to earn his spot. Jackson Bussell will also travel and play as an individual.

Bucknell at the Dartmouth Invitational

In each of the previous two seasons, Bucknell competed in tournaments hosted by Dartmouth, although those events were contested at Quechee Club in Vermont. This will be the Bison's first appearance at Hanover CC.
One of the highlights of Bucknell's 2018-19 season was a record-setting team victory at Quechee Club. The Bison posted a 7-under 281 team score in the final round. It was the team record in relation to par by three shots, and it was the lowest total score ever recorded away from home. Chris Tanabe, who carded a final-round 69, joined teammate Connor O'Brien in a four-man playoff for the individual title. Brown's Drew Powell prevailed in the playoff.
The previous season, the Bison placed sixth among 14 teams at Quechee Club.
