NOTE: The javelin throw has been moved to a 3:30 p.m ET start on Friday, June 7 due to weather in the Austin area.
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell's Maura Fiamoncini will prepare for her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday when she travels to Austin, Texas to take part in the javelin.
SETTING THE SCENE
What: NCAA Outdoor Championships
Where: Mike A. Myers Stadium, Austin, Texas
When: June 5-8 (Javelin Throw scheduled for Thursday at 8:15 p.m.) (CT), 9:15 p.m. ET
Watch: Javelin Stream Broadcast Info
Fiamoncini competed at the National Championships last season, taking 13th overall to earn Second Team All-America honors (163-8). The Mt. Carmel, Pa., native will take part in the second flight, and enters the competition as the sixth-seeded thrower. Fiamoncini's throw at the NCAA Divison I East Preliminary was second overall, and a season-best (176-10). She has improved by at least two feet in each of her previous three meets, and won her first six meets to open the season.
Fiamoncini will be joined by defending national champion Mackenzie Little of Stanford, as well as runner-up Jenna Gray of the Cardinal. NCAA East Preliminary winner Laura Paredes of Florida State, who edged Fiamoncini on her last throw and took third at last season's meet, will also be in Flight Two. Ashley Pryke of Memphis (7th), and Kylee Carter of Auburn (9th), are other top-ten finishers from 2018 who will return in Flight Two for the 2019 edition of the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Fiamoncini is one of just four freshmen or sophomores in Flight Two.
"Maura has really picked up some momentum in the postseason championships meets after a slower start than she wanted," said Head Coach Kevin Donner. "She is healthy and peaking at the right time. The experience she gained as a freshman last year at NCAA, Junior Nationals, and Junior World is really paying off now as she know she belongs and can compete with anyone in the nation."
